A few months ago I switched my flywheel and clutch out and had to return the 6 bolt flywheel to get an 8 bolt cobra flywheel the guy at the shop said that my particular block used the cobra crank. I didn't think anything of it at the time just wanted to get my clutch done. Does the romeo blocks have cobra pistons/ rods as well or is it just the crank? Also does anywon know how much HP will my block hold before the limit? I am planning on a turbo setup when I get back from overseas and am debating on spending the money on a shortblock car is a dailly driver as all stangs should be driven. thanks for the info

Sh1t I wish romeo's had cobra internals . The answer is no, our blocks have crappy cast pistons/rods/crank so it's limited to around 400WHP. Anything more and you'll want forged internals.

I thought that was the case I guess I just had to hear it. I wonder what the deal with the 8 bolt crank vs the regular 6 bolt crank?

Precisely, all 2Vs come with a nodular iron crank, hypereutectic rods/pistons, Windsors have an 8 bolt crank whereas the Romeos have 6 bolt. The crank won't really be your power limitation here, the rods tend to be the weak point... you can easily run 500rwhp with a nodular crank, forged rods and forged pistons setup.

Thanks all I think I am going to save my Pogs for a few and pony up for a built shortblock. I think I should be safe running a turbo at 8 PSI around town and 12 at the strip until I have enough change to swing one. Was thinking about building myself, but after listening to the board I think I know what areas i need to let the experts do the work.

Easiest way to tell is the valve covers, something about the bolt pattern/# bolts. Sorry I can't help you with the actual details, maybe someone else can?

Are the windsors better built from the factory? What's the diff in the romeo/windsor blocks besides the # of crank bolts? Are the heads interchangeable? Just curious as I have a windsor block in my car and installing p&p heads soon.

T,
The Windsor blocks are supposedly stronger due to the fact that they have more bolts on the main. The heads are interchangeable, don't worry.
San

PM me about what you decided to go with (head and cam wise).

Mine has a sticker on the valve cover with Windsor printed on it, yours may too. It was on the drivers side.

Another difference is the Windsors have pressed on cam gears IIRC, not bolt on.

Your 2001 is a Romeo. It has 11 bolt covers. Windsors have 14 bolts.

So if you get an aftermarket cam would you have to switch to the bolt on cam or do they sell pressed on cams?

The aftermarket cams come with bolts. You'll have to buy bolt-on gears.

Might have to get a Dart block but don't want to and if I do, then 363 instead of 331. Thoughts on what I've already bought so far.......
