Cobra intake is on !!!

Well everyone the big brown truck showed up with my intake around noon and I happened to have the day off so I got right after it. As mentioned in a previous post I already had the car tore down so I was ready to rock and roll with the install. After some time with a wire wheel and some spray paint I was ready to slap this bad boy on. My impression are the car feels slighty softer down low but picks up great in the mid to upper rpm range and was a worthwhile mod. I also installed a Ford racing strut tower brace being the fact my car is a vert I want to keep all the stiffness I could with the suspension. Next up is going to be heads and headers in the spring.

I'm thinking about going with some gt40p heads and gt40p specific headers, I thought about going with some aluminum heads but I am paranoid about stripping out bolt holes. I have noticed a definate increase in power just driving around town, haven't had a chance to really open it up yet. I will drive it a couple of days and change the oil.

Nah alums are good I almost got a set of the GT40 xs till I traded some exhaust work for the AFRs. You may run into having to helicoil some holes on alum heads if you dont use antisieze or overtorque and strip threads.

Great choice of intakes dude!
Just two weeks ago I was installing my brand new unit I got from Blue Oval Industries. It arrived in rough cast shape, but I have porting and polishing tools and cleaned everything up nicely. When I had the lower intake off I had rags cut up to shove down into the head ports so I could port and polish and gasket match the intake side of the heads. When done, I just used the shop vac to suck out the rags and shavings. Man, the 3rd gear pull is like an LS1 now!

Cant wait to get to the track and test it out once cooler weather prevails.
I went with a 70mm TB and it rocks too!

Congrats :nice:

Why did you go with the ford STB and how much was it?

I got it from Summit for about 100 bucks, perfect fit on my car.

Bullitt95 - yeah I thought about going the stock ported intake route but the Cobra looks much cooler, I drove the car last night about 40 miles and can tell you after drving it a while it feels much stronger at all RPMS with no loss of low end torque and a noticable increase in power from top to bottom. It starts coming on strong about 2300 rpms and just gets better from there out. I am very happy with it.

Mikie - when doing the install I scraped out the 1/16" build up of baked on oil in the intake ports of the heads and used my 5 hp shop vac to clean it all out of the heads. I am not kidding you it runs and idles like a brand new car now. I know what you mean about pulling like an LS1, my car pulls real hard now lol.

It definately felt like christmas, I was happy as a 10 year old christmas morning.

I didn't think that a cobra would lose any torque down low. Personally I like the cobra intake for a stock bottomend street 5.0. With a little port work they will work pretty good with aftermarket aluminum heads too. Sure a edelbrock or other brand intake will work better in the upper range but the cobra is a little better in the lower rpm's. Looks like you done a nice job. Now it's time to have some fun with it.:D

That's what matters at the end of the day. Being happy with the result. :)
