Guys,
I just purchased a 93 Cobra intake off of bo industries ebay and want to know what all I will need to make this work. The engine is 100% stock. I am thinking about putting an aftermarket throttle body on, but will my factory tb and factory stuff bolt right up?

Thanks for any insight.

Mike

Chinobra (Chinese replica) intakes require a bigger oil baffle. Call FRPP and they will send you the oil baffle to correct a design flaw. Although the design is improving and not all have a problem, I would still replace the oil baffle to be safe. Besides gaskets you should be good to go.

I don't have oil issues with mine? All you need are intake to head gaskets. It has an integrated EGR spacer so if you want you can get an aftermarket throttle body, although I think the stock one will work fine for the stock heads, if not I wouldn't go any higher than 65mm...

Oh and you will want to plug the heater pipe passages that used to send coolant to the stock EGR spacer (Cobra doesn't have that). I welded mine after cutting off the nipple, and inserted a plug intot he intake lower manifold (rear - passenger side).

man that's a ton of money spent for not much hp gain at all. You'll need heads and cam to go with that, or you essentially won't be realizing the gain from switching to a bigger intake.

stick with the stock throttle body, it's MORE than sufficient for a stock motor. upgrade to a 65 or 70 depending on which heads you buy in the future.

I appreciate the input and realize that the gains will not be great without heads and cam, but there is a guy on this board that just posted a video of his notch running with a 97 modded Cobra and runs mid 8s in the 1/8th mile. That is what my target times and et is. His mods were... Cobra intake, TB, Shortys, Pro chamber, dumps, 75mm maf sensor and E fan.

I still dont know how he is running a 75 mm maf sensor on his and bennefitting from it?

Anyway, heads and cam is not out of the question and possible come tax season.

I ran 9.2@78mph on the 1/8 (14.1@99.5 1/4 mile)... my car was stock except weight reduction, shorty headers, CAI, X-pipe and turn downs (no tail pipes).

Intake is an easy mod and good for starters, we can't always buy HCI all at once. Just make sure you make a list of what you want so you won't have to repeat buying the same parts (like wanting to trade the Cobra for a Performer later on).

:dunno: I still have the 2:73 gearing and have a "nice" timeslip (for such little mods) besides my real crappy 60 footer.
