Did anyone see the recent article about the company that makes a late model cobra irs adaptable to the early model cars? Not sure of the mag! I'm weighing different options for the vert we're doing for 05 SEMA.

would be way easier to use a mark 8 rear end or a t-bird one no?. (tbird is cast iron, lincoln is aluminum)

are you guys talking about dvs restorations? I think the cobra IRS only fits 67 and up. Its too wide for the 65/66

The DVS one does sound familiar! Bummer on the 67-up though. I may be forced into the Heidt's one. Nothing to shrug at, I was just wanting to do something newer!

I thought they had come out with an application for the 65-66. It's not what I could use anyway since we are shooting for a narrowed version for a deep dish wheel.

Don't know if you all have seen our project on page 10 of the May issue of Mustang Monthly but here it is.

Maybe you should talk to Reenmachine, he has got a pretty nice setup in the rear of his convertible that I believe is a IRS. It is on his most recent thread of the convertible he is redoing.

Don't forget Marshall put an IRS (not a FoMoCo Cobra unit though) into his 66.

Reens is a Heidt's or slightly modified version. They have the most options for width that I've seen. I can't really tell what Marshall used but it's another example of some great work these guys are doing. All the kudos...

I saw th Blue Moon setup at the Silver Springs show in January. It looked pretty cool, pricey, but cool. There seem to be more IRS setups than I realized. Great project idea for someday.

I'm pretty sure it's Jag. The driveshaft is the top suspension link.

yeah marshall's is a modded jag unit. reen's is a heidts and there is another option as well besides the DVS and Blue moon cobra units. it is the CTM engineering unit. http://www.geocities.com/ctmengineering. by they way Jay, i think the blue moon unit is pretty much an exact copy (or almost) of the dvs unit, seems like everything they have is a copy of someone elses stuff and also seems to be about the same price as well. personally i would rather buy it from the person or company that built it first if it's going to cost as much anyway

Blue Moon doesn't look like a DVS copy . . .

There was a photo in the last Mustang Monthly of the specific Ford unit Blue Moon was doing. DVS seems to just lift off the Cobra bits and not fab up too much themselves - Blue Moon fabs it up. I don't know what style they've got a photo of there. I would like to know what the running gear Blue Moon uses is. I wouldn't want a jag rear in there for a 500-hp machine if that's what you've got or are aiming for.

The "X" looks a little cheezy but strong. Can't wait for better photos and pricing from the blue moon guys. I have yet to check out the heidts though.

We only have one pic of the Bluemoon setup, and that pic is full of double-shear mounted components. Seems a bit sloppy to me.

yeah i actually think that particular irs setup is for an s-10 pickup, if i read it right after i posted the link last night.

Double-shear, can you explain?

what components exactly? I'm assuming by double-shear you mean a bolt that could easily tear the metal on either side? I can figure out basic engineering concepts with a little help, but I'm not familiar with the double-shear terminology or what a mount that would be prone to that would look like. any links to discussions?
