Has anyone replaced their GT front brakes with the cobra/mach1 13" brakes? And how happy are you with them. I just ordered the kit. Also should I get the drilled/sloted rotors or just go with regular ones. I heard you cant get the drilled/sloted rotors turned and machined. Is there any truth to this? Opinions are welcome. Thanks, Clint

I have the Bullitt calipers with a genuine Brembo drilled rotor and SS lines. Much improved feel and stopping distance over the stock GT crap brakes.

I'm not sure if you can turn the drilled rotors, but they aren't that expensive to begin with unless you're buying 2 piece rotors like Baer Eradispeeds. The Brembos I got were a little under $300.00 from Tirerack.

Glad to hear that theyre a lot better. 300 dollars for rotors is mega bucks on my budget. Are the drilled sloted rotors that much better?

Probably not, but I've always wanted a set and would've been unsatisfied if I had bought regular Cobra 13" rotors (still Brembo made though).

I would've saved a lot of money too though...in retrospect.

I just did the install last week. The thing I noticed is that in regular driving they feel EXACTLY the same to the stockers. It's when you really get on the brakes that you feel a BIG diffrence. Worth every penny IMO.

I love my baers, they are slotted and drilled. I just had them turned. Most places can't turn them, i had to go to a machine shop to have them done. The guy there said they turn them all the time. $19 bucks a piece to turn them.

well the kit I bought was the ford racing kit. And it came with the brakets cobra calipers and semi metalic pads for 189 to my front door. I just ordered some brembo sloted rotors for 140. Not to bad for the price:nice: Glad to here the kit is worth it!

I love my Mach 1 brakes. I bought the buyfordracing.com kit which was two loaded calipers, two plain-faced Brembo rotors and a set of stainless steel brake lines for $310.

One thing i didn't like was the black color of the Mach 1 calipers, so i painted them red using the duplicolor brush-on kit. Looks like bullitt calipers minus the pony. I beleive there are white pony decals i could buy and put on if i really wanted...but i don't. I also painted the hats of the rotors silver to prevent rust and also to match the car

Big improvement. Like said before, during normal driving they feel normal, but when you really get on them the difference is noticable. I also notice the more heat you give them the better they stop. After a few hard stops, the brakes seem to grab even better.

www.tirerack.com sells the plain brembos dirt cheap. I beleive the plain-faced ones are $60 a rotor!

Plus they look awesome. I always get friends commenting on how huge they are :)

Agreed I did the full Bullitt conversion on my car and I love it! They feel pretty similar under normal driving but they sure haul the thing down really well under hard conditions. I haven't noticed any more or less brake dust either. Maybe I wash my car too much! lol!

I too did the Bullitt kit from Buyfordracing but instead used the Powerslot rotors. Another vote for feeling like stockers during normal driving but the harder you push them the harder they grip and have never failed me (no fading). I put them on right before I ran the TailoftheDragon and it was there that I realized how strong they were. No matter how fast I was going when I was coming up to a curve and felt like I was going to launch off the road I just hit the brakes a little harder, the car squatted down and it STOPPED.
This is a definate must upgrade both cosmetically and performance/safety related (let's face it, Mustangs don't have the best brakes).

One thing to beware of is that Brembo doesn't make slotted rotors for that price. Those are probably OEM Brembo Cobra rotors that someone slotted aftermarket.

Not necessarily a bad thing, just beware as they may not use the same processes to slot it that Brembo would.

I have brembo cross drilled rotors, I wouldn't go with slotted unless it's not a DD, they are in theory supposed to work better, by shaving a little off the pad every time you brake, which keeps the surface cleaner, but will wear the pad away quicker. So you will have more dust than with just a cross drilled, which helps gasses escape and keep the rotor cooler. It's true you cannot turn either of these rotors, but in every expeirence i've had with turned rotors...they've become warped again within like 5k miles...just a thought, I will never turn another rotor, too much of a PITA just to have to replace everything that quick anyway.

Replacement plain-faced Brembo rotors from tirerack.com are DIRT CHEAP. I beleive the rear GT rotors are only $32 each. That's pretty much what you'd pay for a generic parts store rotor.

In the spring i'm going to order two GT Brembo rears and get some OEM pads and do the rear brakes. I thought about the Cobra M2300-M kit but i don't want the hassle of pulling the axles.

I just hope you guys realize that the drilled rotors remove a lot of surface area, which in turn leads to longer stopping times. Slotting the rotors has a similar effect, but nowhere near as drastic as drilling does.

The kit, however, is a great bang for the buck, especially from buyfordracing.com.

Be aware that their customer support is very unfriendly, but I bought plenty of things from them and I'm still planning on it. Haven't had a problem with them one (besides some snappy remarks from their customer service).

You have evidence to back up that claim?

Many, if not all of the supercars manufacturers have drilled, slotted, or both types of rotors on their cars. That includes Porsche, Lambo, Ferrari, etc etc.

Ever see a $3000.00 Brembo Grand Prix rotor system upgrade use regular rotors? I haven't. How about a ceramic Porsche GT brake system? Slotted and drilled there too. Murcielago? Drilled ceramic brakes. I'm sure they all don't do it for the "bling."

You get the picture....I'm just asking for proof of your claim.
