cobra r rims 17x8 (front) 17x10.5 (back) and tire questions...

I'm thinking about going ahead and buying new wheels when my tires wear out and i need new tires. I have a few questions before i go into this.

First What tire options do i have for good price and performance for 8'' rims in front and 10.5's in back. If i can save enough money buying all the other stuff i will get 315 nittos on back. I've been hearing you can get barely used tires really cheap at some places but im not sure where. I'm really not even sure what brand i should go with for tires...but i do know i dont wanna blow 300 bucks / tire...they just dont last long enough to spend that kind of money.

Second, Will i have any issues with the back rims being 10.5''. I read some people had some rubbing problems. What back spacing is ok?
Here is the details on the rims im looking for...

There are two different size wheels. For the front are the 17" x 8" (+20mm with 5.24" backspacing) and for the rear the WIDE 17" x 10.5"! The rear wheels are +27mm offset with 6.63-inch backspacing. They are 5-lug (5 on 4 ½).

Last, should I bother trying to order the rims and/or tires online or should i just go straight to discount tire (or another place?) and have them do the works for me.

i'm looking for that too:
AFwheels has a pretty cool set of 03 cobras in 17x10.5 and 17x8 or 9. It's like $650 fro the whole set. Then I would go to discount tires and get 5 nittos (including the 315) and have them mounting/balancing them...u might be able to negociate since ur buying 4 brand new tires at the same time...
I've heard the rubbing happens only with the cobras and IR not the GT...

I dunno for sure, but I would think the only issues you all would have would be the quad shocks and possibly the fender lip, especially if you are lowered.

If your car is a daily driver and you want tires with good handling, good dry traction, and good wet traction look at the Goodyear GS-D3s. They come in widths from 245-315 that will fit 17x8 to 17x10.5 rims well. I use tirerack.com and their information to find out about section widths and performance characteristics of different tires. If you want some really sticky, dry only tires on the rear, then it seems that Nitto or BFG drag radials are what you need on the rear. You probably already know they won't last long though. (BFGs about 5,000 miles and Nittos about 10,000 miles)

Discount tire seems to be the best place to buy tire and wheel combos.

Would 245's be as wide as you would want to go on the front to keep good handling or should i go wider on the 8's up front? Im going to use 315 something on the back. I may go with nittos but i really dont want to replace my back tires every 10-15k

How much do those goodyears cost?

I'm running the AFS Cobra R rims 17x8 and 17x10.5. I went with 245s on the front and 315s on the back. The only potential rubbing issues will be with your exhaust and/or your quads. I took the quads off at the same time, so that wasn't an issue. I only had an issue with the exhaust slightly rubbing when I changed my x out for an h, but that was easily solved. I love the look and get quite a few compliments. I know the Cobra Rs are played out, but I like them.

The ratings are great for daily driver tires.

The prices range from $150 to $250+ depending on section width and rim size.

Look for packages on ebay. I just won AFS 18x9's '03 Cobra's for $415. 245's are fine for the front. your only other option with an 8'' width would be 255/40. If you got 9" up front you could do stuff like 265/40 or 275/40. I think 265/40 would be a perfect size personally

For now, I'm running Sumitomo's. I was strapped at the time and these had decent reviews and were relatively inexpensive with a good tread pattern. If I stick with the 17s, I'll be going with BFGs when the rears wear out. They've been on for a year with no noticeable tread wear. I was able to squeeze a 2.0 out of them at the track with my auto, but the traction isn't the greatest on the street.

I took my quad's off completely, because I added UCAs/LCAs. The rubbing was where the exhaust goes from 2.5" to whatever the tips are. It was only on cornering.

Tire fitment

I have a similar question. I have an 01 must gt, and am thinking about 2754017 all around on 17x8 wheels. can anyone tell me if this will cause any rubbing issues?

Just make sure u roll the rear fender lip's or u will chew the 315 tires to bits.

I have 17x9 cobra R all around with 255s up front and 275s out back no rubbing at all....
by the way this rims and tires are for sale now if anyone is interested let me know....

To fix the 17x10.5 issue just take off the quad shock only if you have aftermarket LCA's. if you don't have LCA's, then just flip them and you will be fine. The bolt size is 18mm for the top part that bolts to the chasis and 15mm that bolts to the axle.

Stock wheel sizes with 275's will not cause rubbing. They are stock wheel size.

I got the Chrome cobra Rs 17-9 17-10.5 and my cars slammed I have no rubbing issues. I have nittos 315s on the back and toyos on the front 245s. But i juts bought the steeda drag kit and lakewood 90/10 struts, so weight transfers coming
