Hello,

I wanted to run something by y'all that's kinda weird. I dumped the codes in the '94 a week or two ago with no problem. I just got a new-to-me Autoxray 5000 and was playing with it. It won't retrieve KOEO or KOER codes (I get a message saying the vehicle wont respond). But I can stream data so some part of the connection(s) are good. I tried it on the '88 - same message and no code retrieval (cant stream on the 88, so I dont know about that).

So I get out the 30 buck Actron to yank codes on the '94 (this is what I used a couple weeks ago with no issues). The reader's light stays on non-stop and the beeper just keeps wailing solid. It wont attempt to pull codes. It never used to just beep non-stop when it was plugged in. It felt like one wire was shorting or receiving 12 volts when it shouldnt.

I whip out the test light and can pull codes. Weird.

I tested the resistance of the test-ground and it's 1.0 Ohm (good).

Does anyone have any thoughts on what's going on with the code readers or what happened to my wiring? It almost seems like one of the other wires in the test connector might be giving bad input or something since the jumper-and-test-light method works.

Can a scanner like that (the Autoxray) fry something (since it's used, I have no idea what was done to it beforehand)?

I welcome all ideas and thoughts!

oh wow.. for as often as you claim "dump codes" to everyone.. what are you gonna do without ur code reader?????

sorry, just having a little bit of fun. Sounds like the code reader its self just crapped out.. if it wont pull codes now and its used... but the old flash bulb method of code pulling works. ya know.. ya get the picture..

btw... I always thought the sn95 5.0 cars had a really weird system where they were obdI connectors on an obdII computer which made it almost impossible to find a code reader suitable for its purpose... I dunno.. maybe im completely wrong but Im pretty sure there is SOME truth into what Im trying to convey to you....

Thanks for the reply. The weird thing is that two devices are both unable to read codes (Autoxray and cheapo Actron). That's not normal. I normally use the Actron (no CEL on the '88 so it's a little easier).

The 94-95's V6's are OBD-II and the GTs are OBD-I - that might be what you're thinking of. Or that some of the late model GM's (thinking 4th Gen camaros here) have an OBD-II port even though they are indeed OBD-I.

I still cant figure out what's going on. I welcome all thoughts from yourself or others.
