Stopped by the local AZ, keep gettin an intermittent CE light. Code scanner kept having "linking errors". Attendant tried a differnet scanner, same thing. the attendant said something about the cig lighter being the power source for those scanners, mine don't work so I'm looking into that. Anyway, any ideas at what else could keep a scanner and the computer from talkiing? Let me know, thanks

Not sure but if you have a paper clip and some wire you don't need a scanner. Go to www.fordfuelinjection.com side menu has it.

Dont you have two accessory outlets? My OBD-I reader has a battery of its own. Wonder if they had the right port.

Anyways, Danny is right - do it yourself.

Good luck.

Is he using the port under the dash or the pass side of the engine next to the strut tower? We have the new obd2 port but it dosent work. Our computers are the obd1 and it's under the hood. Ford installed the obd2 ports becuase they wre getting ready for the obd2 or something like that.

The V6's use OBD-II so all cars got both ALDLs/connectors at the factory. The possibility of having used the wrong port (and an OBD-II reader) was what I was referring to (though more implicitly) above.

Yeah, b/c the v6's are obd2 and it was cheaper to put the connector in all of them.

I bet he was using the obd2 port......goofball.

The fordfuelinjection site has a big image over what should be the directions on how to extract your codes without a code-scanner. Could someone take the time to break it down into english maybe?

Thanks...

Rudelife if you scroll down a little more they have another way of doing it if you don't have a CE that works.
The info your missing is...
1. Engine off
2. Get a length of wire that can connect the STI to the negative battery terminal or body ground
Just the top half is cut off.

Personally Hef i would opt for 38lbs squirters. It always better to have more than not enough or just barly making. It also leaves room for up grades , *cough**more boost**cough*

I like when people say why spend the $$ when you can check codes with a paper clip.

Why by a screwdriver when a butter knife works.

Why by different sockets when you can just use ONE adj wrench??

Get the picture....???

Good $$ spent.

I see what you mean. Having the right tools to do the job makes sense. The less time you spend checking codes means the more time you have to fix the car.

But since the scan tool doesn't actually save you any time, it seems a little pointless and a waste of money. And it's not any easier to use. It's actually more of a pain b/c you can't read the scan tool while you are turning the steering wheel, depressing the brake, cycling the o/d switch. But you can with the paper clip method.
