But since the scan tool doesn't actually save you any time, it seems a little pointless and a waste of money. And it's not any easier to use. It's actually more of a pain b/c you can't read the scan tool while you are turning the steering wheel, depressing the brake, cycling the o/d switch. But you can with the paper clip method.

I see what you mean. Having the right tools to do the job makes sense. The less time you spend checking codes means the more time you have to fix the car.

I just cycle the O/D and tap the brakes when I start...the scanner takes about 30 seconds to read the codes...If I do the above before the time is up, it wont give me those codes ... I use the one from Walmart.
