code scanner

Check out the newer version that has an LCD screen (no more counting LED flashes or beeps). It can be accompanied by an extension cable so you can run codes from the interior of the car. Midway auto sells them, and it is reported that some CSK stores do too.
Chris (Cman) and others use this very scanner as I recall. It is like 35 bucks plus the optional cable if you want it (that is a wise extra 15 bucks spent if you ask me). Otherwise, a paperclip can be used to pull codes for almost free.

Good luck.

yeh the one JT is tallking about is from walmart. Its a great scanner showes the number af the code and has a book with them all listed. I use the same one and so far haven't seen a need for the extra cable because you turn the key on then get out and push the button and the codes pop up. If your that lazy that you need to sit in your car to push a button you shouldn't be working on it lol

This is the one my walmart has and is the one i have which i said above is great

Here is Midways page for it. http://www.midwayautosupply.com/detailedproductdescription.asp?3829 I think its about the same price actually but if you got it at walmart theres no S&H to worry about

Yeah, but then you only get the KOEO codes and not the KOER codes. If you have the cable, you can do the KOER codes with just one person.

I got the same one. It doesn't have the wire either. I can get by just fine without it haha...

Whatever you do don't waste your $$ on one that just beeps. My friend has one of those what a waste of time.

Let me finish that for ya

.........unless you have a SD fox, in which case it is nice to hear the beeps while you are goosing wires, etc. :D

That was the reason I got mine - I would miss test light flashes, etc.

Sorry RC, allow me to clarify. When you use the code scanner. If you just plug it in and turn the key to the run position as MysteryMachine suggested and get out of your car to read the code reader, that's only good for the KOEO (Key On Engine Off) codes. If you want to run the running test on sensors, you need the KOER (Key On Engine Running) codes that may require you to operate the accelerator cable at a specific time. I was suggesting that both would be easy if you had (or made) and extension cable to do this.

(You can blame Ford for the terms KOEO and KOER).

never had to do that yet my CEL has only came on for the EGR flow.

jtb theres no actual butto to clear it out there they have on the OBD2's but after i pull teh codes its always went out so i don't know if the scanner does it itself or not maybe someone else can answer that question
