codes help for someone new...

ok i need help pulling codes..my friend who has an 89 gt says my car is in a fail safe b/c its running real rich..can some please help me pull my codes and figure out what is going on? thanks

You can find the procedure in your repair manual. Or get a 35 dollar code reader. Or see if your friend will do it for you. All you really need is a paperclip or jumper wire to do it yourself.

FWIW, if your CEL is not illuminated, you should not be running in FMEM (the correct acronym for fail-safe mode).

Should even be able to get on at Walmart....if it's closer...it's definitely cheaper.

That's where I got mine years ago...their auto dept has a lot more things now...slightly better stereos, wires, fuses, HID lights, etc. Just take a look first as long as you're there!

well just got back from my nearest wally world (wal-mart) and i didnt see any code readers or scanners whatever you call it..im going outta town this weekend so ill have to check autozone monday..and let you guys know if i find one..thanks again for the help..

Buy the code reader....You will use it a lot. This method works, but If you are not in a hurry and you will be working on the car, it is worth it.
