coil over questions (need options)

right now I have bilsteins with h&r springs. it is a bit harsh for my taste. I am thinking of switching to coilovers.

now what is the best combo. keep the bilsteins and run maximum motorsports kit? or should I look to other companies? should I consider ajustable shocks as well?

You can't beat the MM quality. Your need for adjustable shocks will depend on what you intend to do with the car. Street use with the occasional AutoX or OT event will not require adjustables. A track whore would probably benefit tremendously.

The people at MM should be able to set you up with a comfortable riding coilover combo.

yeah it is funny how much some of the coilover kits differ in price. I do like MM's reputation. I don't really want to ajust the suspention I am just paranoid of not being able to dial it in to my liking so to speak. in reality the right spring combo should put me where I need to be.

Take a look at Eibach....They JUST came out with an all adjustable coilover package for our stangs. Adjustable ride height is a nice benefit....

anyone else haven any info on the eibach coilover kit. can't find much on the net. must be fairly new.

Coilovers offer a much rougher ride over a regular setup.

and what gives you that idea. coilovers have a spring rate just like anything else. the sping is located in more effecint position as well. a 200lb coilover spring is roughly equivelent to a 800lb normal spring. hence you get a less harsh ride.

What gives me that idea? I run QA1 coilovers with a 14" 175# spring (recommended) and I feel the difference and so do most others who have a similar setup and when you thow a set of skinnies on, you really notice it.

Griggs racing makes nice coilover kits.. im running one right now, with a 350lb spring. not harsh at all.

my struts on the other hand.. used mach 1 pieces of ****ing ****... now theyre garbage. be sure to upgrade to decent struts.

I think I should've gone with some kind of coilover setup. I'm not really happy with the drop my sportlines gave me. I still have like 2-3 finger gap between tires and fender. Any car I've ridden in with coilovers is a bouncy jarring ride. A mustang may be different. I've never been in any car with lowering springs or c/o's and a performance shock. I know my car kinda sucks at handling with the stock shocks. The back end like jumps in the air when i go over a bump.

I just wonder if you have it set up right. or you are lowered to far. I am not picking on you but maybe you need to play with you valving and spring rate. I guess I will put it this way I have riden in many stock cars with coilovers that were not bouncy. newer camaro's are coilover they don't ride bouncy. so the right shock, strut, springrate, ride height combo is going to give you a good ride that is hard to argue. now finding that combo may take some tweeking. I think that is why I have a problem now I just have to stiff a srpring with to much drop and stiff struts. I have heard from a few that MM coil over kit with bilstines was a way better ride than a convetional spring that is hearsay though. the physics of it make sence to me though. I guess I will find out and post results.

I am also considering the eibach kit because I bet that eibach engineered it to have a better ride quality that qa1 one did thier kit. that is just a guess though.

If it is all about ride harshness, you may want to consider dumping the Bilsteins in favor of some Tokico Illuminas. That is what I did and ride quality when up dramatically ... although that is with Pro Kit springs, not H&R.

well I have thought about that. I am just a bit torn. I don't really want ajustable suspention I just want a good handling good riding suspention. stock road ok handled like crap. now it handles great but rides like crap. what setting do you have them on. I have read the premimus are like 2-3 setting on the illuminias. did run the fox body or regualr tockico's. I think it was white99gt or someone who said they broke two rear normal shocks and then switched to the fox body.

harsh ride quality? suppose thats why they put coilovers in Lamborghini's and other supercars suppose their rides suck too
