Have a 99 GT , the other day after cleaning the motor , with simple green carefully I got a miss ... after a short drive it was still there so I got out the OB2 tester it said problem cyl#5 ... I removed the coil pac it wasnt wet looked OK , I borrowed one froma buddy 2001 , it was the problem... after looking at his I noticed come type of 1/2 " black resistor ...my 99 was on the tip of the spring his was in the middle , anyway we ending up removing the resistor from mine and streching the spring so it would make contact with the spark plug , that was the problem , it ran fine no miss... do they sell those resistors ? as the coil pack itself is fine ... any problems running without them ...any of you guys had or seen this type of problem ? thanks in advance .............................Johnny

I think that stretching the spring was the fix. That little piece is simply a bar magnet, not way it could fail. I suggest you put it back in to verify this.

No it seems to do more as we did try to put it back & it would not fire , after trying more than once we cut it open , it was a white plastic inside with small thin wires around the edges , seems to may be some type of radio resistor , I may go up to Ford & see if they know what it actually does ...only you answered & I could not find anything else on-line about it , thanks for the input maybe someone will write & tell me what if anything it does
