Cold Air Intakes, what other things are needed after install if anything?

I'm thinking about getting a K&N FIPK for my 2001 Mustang GT Convertible, but I've heard somewhere (not sure if it's correct information) that the MAF (mass air flow?) sensor should be changed as well. After installing an FIPK, is there any other changes that need to be made? I heard some stories about CAI's causing some complications later in the future, though I'm not sure about the validity of these stories I've heard. Any inputs on this?

You dont need to change anything nor should you.Changing the MAF will probably cause more problems.I dont think you need to change it unless you with a S/C.

The MAF doesn't need to be changed probably cleaned thats it. The only other thing is that the computer needs to relearn or adjust for the intake. That should take a few cycles.

for the computer to learn this , you need to disconnect the battery for a minute or 2 ? or you dont need to disconnect it at all?

How do u clean the MAF and how often should you do it?

When I got my X Pipe the guys I bought it from told me the computer will relearn after a few miles or a few turns of the key. They told me its the same for CAI's. It ususally idles funny for a while and then goes back to normal.

does a cycle mean like how many times i start the car and run it?

if you want to clean the maf use alcohol or something that wont leave a residue. just be very careful. just drive it around for a while after the install and see how it behaves. It may idle funny or even surge a little, but it should calm down after driving it a few times.

Does anyone know if CAI will increase my sound output by any chance? After getting the Saleen rear fachsia put on, my exhaust catback had to be redone to fit it, and it sounds a bit quieter now and I'm thinking it's because the new bends and curves, but I want to regain some sound back. I'm just thinking that if an FIPK can take more air in, there will be more air out right? I'm hoping to increase my sound output.

there will definately be some sound coming from the CAI, but not at idle. and you will hear it at WOT coming from the front.But the sound wont be loud on a V8. I had a K&N on a V4 and THAT sounded loud and nice. On V8 the sound wont be all that loud.

It got slightly louder in my 96 GT after I installed the K&N FIPK. I heard a deeper rumble after install and it actually sounded pretty good with the stock exhaust. You will also hear a "whooshing" sound when you floor it. I felt a definite SOTP difference in low-end torque so I think they are worth installing, IMHO. Let us know what you think.

that's what i wanted to hear I'm practically sold on a FIPK if it increases my tone

It may make you run on the lean side if you upgraded your catback. Get a dyno run in before and after installing the FIPK if you can.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think thats only with CAI's that curve into the fender.

I have a C&L CAI on which the filter does not extend into the fender, and the A/F ratio on my car ran mid 14s to low 15s at WOT with the stock tune modified only for 4.10s and T/C off. The midpipe and catback also played a part in this too, though.

People have complained about their cars pinging after a CAI install, never happened with my Steeda CAI though. It sounded a bit louder but I really can't hear it over the exhaust anymore

I'd get the TrueFlow pipe and keep your stock filter, or use the TrueFlow in conjunction with the K&N drop-in filter.

I like that setup, or simply stock best. Right now I have stock and am selling my TrueFlow because I just like the stock tube's fit better than anything I've tried (K&N FIPK II included).

You can unplug the negative battery cable, turn your lights on to drain any left over power hanging around, and then hook it back up. Everything should reset after that. Anytime I make an exhaust/CAI change I do that to reset the computer. You'll lose your radio station presets though.
