Do any of you have problems getting your 5.0L to idle when the temp is 40 degrees or below? I can't get mine to idle at all if the engine is cold and its cold outside. I have to give the engine gas to keep the engine running. What could cause this besides the cold weather? Its driving me nuts!
First the engine wouldn't start when the engine is hot now it won't idle when the engine is cold and the weather is cold

This is the 92 5.0L, my 95 starts just fine.

Remove the Intake Air bypass valve (IAB) which is the cylinder shaped object on the side of your throttle body. It is held on by two small bolts and an electrical connector. Spray it out really really good with carb cleaner. Let it air dry and then rebolt everything back down. Carbon often builds up and the carb cleaner will give the valve a better reading to the computer

Make sure you disconnect the battery when doing this.

See the sticky "Help me create the Surging Idle Checklist" at the top of the forum for help with your idle problems.

I had that problem once before I bought my PMS tuning device. Turns out it was a very common lean issue due to the colder air more so on modified cars with bigger injectors that rely on just a "calibrated" maf. I added in some cold compensation fuel and all is well. I have no clue what an idle problem is anymore

One of the best things i've ever bought for the car. A little tricky at first but I had VERY good people on the net helping me out when i needed it. www.stangtuning.com will help a ton. Gary and Troy were the 2 guys who helped me. I can help you with the basics if you need help.

Thank you. I cleaned the IAB and started it up and it almost died but it caught itself and then i gave it some gas for about 10 seconds (thinking it didn't work) and i let off it and it dropped rpms and then went back up and stayed at 800rpm (which it has never done since it got cold, usually it dies still) So i am hopeful it fixed it.I will find out in 8 hours when i go to work.
Thanks again

No problem Cobra

It's a common problem, just spray it out REAL good and it is usually good for quite sometime. Practically a free solution with about 10 minutes of work...hopefully it will solve it.

No idea, my car is stored during cold weather
That said, I started her like 4 times during the winter at -40 C and it fired like a charm!
