Has anyone done this conversion? I have a steering box and a column from a 68 Mustang, but I am not sure how to do the conversion? Also will my 66 steering wheel fit on a 68 column?
I saw where flaming river has a colapsable column out
I was looking at it, as I am going with R&P (not Flaming River!). I think you would need to do something with the U-bolt column support as well.
By the number of posts, I'd say you may just be a pioneer on this project. If by some strange twist of fate I should beat you to this, I'll post what I do.
Really like the idea, just not sure how much 4" of colapse is going to save you from a sucking chest wound in a serious colision.
I've started thinking more and more towards a 3 point late model seat belt system, to keep my chest way away. For my convertible, that means a rollbar.
Depends on how much collapse your wheel has also, but none of it will help as much as a harness/not hitting the wheel.
Something else there may be an issue with is pedal clearance. I know the '68s have a different bend in the brake pedal over a '67, which has no collapsing column. Just FYI, I was told by quite a few sources that both pedals are unique for a '68, which is totally wrong. Only the brake is different, which I already have. This put me through hell trying to find a '68 clutch pedal .
