Color Choice on the Fastback- Thoughts

Hey guys,

Well it's been many years working on my Fastback and I'm now ready to send it in for paint. I want something a little different and am thinking of a Porsche color called Chalk (aka Crayon) with dark grey Shelby Striping and a dark grey stripe along the sides above the rockers.

What do you guys think this color would look like on a 65 FB?

To be honest, Gone in 60 Seconds has forever ruined grey(regardless of the shade) as a color for mustangs for me...especially with black stripes. In fact, that car has ruined stripes on mustangs for me as well.

Color is a very subjective thing. My personal opinion is that it's too blah, it doesn't draw the eye. But someone else might absolutely love it. I mean I'm sure it'll look like a nice car when it's all said and done, it's just not my cup of tea.

For examples or inspiration, whichever way you want to look at it.

I agree. The last thing I want to get close to is an Eleanor type look which is why the lighter colour. I was also thinking of wimbledon white for the striping. That said, when I attend car shows the Mustangs there are mostly red, blue, black, white so I want something different. Chalk is kind of an interesting color, something different but I'm wondering how it would suit the Fastback styling.

Could always go copper for something a bit different...but copper is a rather polarizing color, you either love it or hate it.

Then there are any number of more exotic colors...but in the end, whatever color you choose, the only one it needs to please is you unless you plan to sell the car relatively soon. Whichever one you choose, just try to choose one that you will be happy with 10 years from now...it is after all why most people go with blacks, reds, and blues.

I first thought the light gray would be a hood variation on the racing white and blue.

Chalk grey / white is a color some people may like but most people don't, That color looks nasty when dust and mud on it.

Thanks for posting. I like that color but want something a little more performance oriented (is Chalk a performance oriented color?? IDK). The car has a pretty big cam in it and some power adders so I'm looking for a color that can just speak for itself on the car. That probably makes no sense LOL!! I've seen a few cars driving around that are Chalk color and they always seem to catch my eye. I think b/c it's a solid color but also unique in it's own way. I'm torn as to which way to go.

I hear you on red, black, white and blue Mustangs everywhere. I think you're on the right track with that chalk color. I think it would lend itself well to the classic lines of the fastback.

Makes me glad my '66 was originally a non-typical color. I intend to repaint it the factory Sauterne Gold Metallic when the time comes.

Thanks, that's the way I feel. No the car won't stand out with a bright color but when people see it it looks great especially with the darker striping.

You could go with a shade of green....? I've been debating on that myself with my convertible. It doesn't seem that green is a horribly popular color, but if done right I think they look pretty good.

Again, examples or inspiration, depending on your view.

For lighter almost-white colors, I always liked eggshell white. The right shade of eggshell I think looks really good.

Personally, (which is how color choices should be made), I am partial to copper shades. In any case, can't wait to see the finished product.
