I bought the $1300.- flaming river rack conversion and it has a GM connector on the column. Do I need to reuse the connector from the original column and pull one wire from it at a time?

also it has 2 universals but no intermediate shaft. How does the column connect tothe rack?

Has anyone had fitment issues? If it is hard to line up holes (Due to prior body movement) Should I give this job to the spring shop? Or can it be done in the driveway?

When I attempted to install a FR rack in my 69 Cougar I planned to make an adapter harness to go between the GM connector in the column and the Ford plug in the car. I never got that far though. I tried two of their kits and gave up because the intermediate shaft would not clear my stock 351W manifold. The mounting brackets went in and lined up in my car with no problem. I had to use a little hammer force on the first on though.

The intermediate shaft should be in the kit. If there is one you need to contact FR customer service.

You should be able to do the job in your driveway. The rack install is fairly straightforward if everything clears. I can't say anything about the column install as I never got that far. The way they adapt a Ford steering wheel to the Ford-spline column is pretty crappy. Best way is to use the GM-spline column, an aftermarket wheel and a GM adapter.

Good luck......

THis is what FR told me I needed for a complete swap, less the rack:

FR20005-30",tilt,paintable,floorshift style column=$319.00
FR200MUKTNO-Mustang column installation kit,w/out u-joint=$89.00
FR1851-36",3/4DD shafting(may be cut to fit)=$49.90
FR1717DD-u-joint(column end)=$71.50
FR1709DD-u-joint(Mustang II manual rack)=$71.50
OR
FR1715DD-u-joint(stock Mustang II power rack)=$71.50
OR
FR1789P-u-joint(if using a Flaming River Mustang II power rack)=$85.90

Dont know if that helps you or not. I am assuming that the FR1851 3/4DD Shafting is what the intermediate shaft is. I asked FR if there have been any issues using a Mustang II Rack and clearance issues with headers, the shaft, or anything else. They said...with their rack or a MII rack, there are no issues on any long tube headers, including 1 3/4" size headers. How true that is, I dont know....

Let me know what you find out when you install because I am about to do the same thing.

Technically a Mustang II rack will not work unless you install a Mustang II suspension as they are front-steer units and will be backwards in a "classic" Mustang installation (rear-steer). The rear-steer racks in the FR kits look to be Chrysler K-car-based.

Holy crap, their parts are expensive.......
