I own a 2006 GT right now and I am in the middle of purchasing a 92GT, (My first car was a 91 Fox body style stang, 5.0 of course).

Anyway, I was looking at dropping this motor in it and had a few questions..
http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=7091

First off, what else would I need besides a tune? I have never swapped an engine out before and I wanted to make sure I didnt f it up before ordering.

Also, it says "*Not legal for sale or use on pollution-controlled motor vehicles.", WTF? So I cannot use it in Illinois because it will fail emissions...wtf is with that?? Am I just better off doing a 351w swap?

Thanks for the help ahead of time!

It uses a carb (not included!) instead of EFI. You would need the EFI stuff in order to pass emissions on any 5.0 Mustang made after 1985. You would fail the visual inspection because of the carb.

You're better off finding a reputable engine builder, and having them build you a motor. Depending on what kind of #'s you want, they can build you what you need.

If you do buy a "new to you" mustang. Just rebuild the motor that is in it. That way you can pick and choose the parts you install. A set of heads and intake will really wake up the 5.0L motor.

As JRickher stated, the motor iteslf isn't SMOG legal, but can be made to by retrofitting all of your emissions equipment to the new one (if you choose this path)

Here is the tips [on buying] thread: http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=573378 That should get you started.
