Anyone running a composite gear? I have run bronze gears over the past 10 years. Yes they work, they wear out after awhile. Not a big deal but will a composite last longer? my set up 65 coupe with a 347, afr 205, howards billet solid roller 624 640 lift, msd 8582. High volume oil pump. I turn the car about 7500, will the pump be to much stress on the composite and make it come apart? any suggestions? opinions? thanks for the imput

When I built my 347 after much research and talking on the phone with Comp Cams and MSD I ended up going with the Composite gear. I haven't pulled the dist. since the install, but so far so good.

i went with MSD 85833 for my roller cam. not sure if your cam is tougher than the stock 5.0 roller cams, but mine works fine.
the gear is steel, and replaced the iron gear used for flat tappets.

ive had zero problems, and have had it in there for 20k miles. ive pulled it several times, when removing the inake, and shows no signs of issues.

its $68 at summit

Few on another board had the composite break at the roll pin area.

Some of the cams can use a steel gear instead like calpolymustang used. My old cam from Crane was suited for it.
