I think this is tech, on topic. I have about $800 I saved toward getting my sad lonely car running again. It will cost a lot more than that, but it's a start. Technically that was going toward a new mountain bike, but that's another story

My question is, do any of you have a list you could share that you may have used to make sure you had everyting you needed for your build?

I have the 347 shortblock sitting in the garage and this is IT, it's time. No more talk, I'm going to start actually buying parts now. I've spent so much money on bikes and plasma TVs and other junk, I could have had this done a long time ago.

The heads will go last since they're going to be expensive (going to get AFR 185cc comps, custom cam).

Mind you, I have a shelf of parts in my garage that I need to catalog to make sure I know what I have and have lost over the past few years. I'm just making sure I'm thorough here, so any help is welcome. Otherwise, I'll type up a list of parts (everything from gaskets to washers to spark plug wires and headers) and get your guys' input on what may be missing. From there, I'm going to start ordering parts and building until the damn thing is running.

Thanks

i think the biggest thing would be to get a comprehensive gasket kit. depending on what parts you have and what parts you buy, it will depend on what your going to need.

Yea make sure you have enough gaskets, RTV, oil, filters, coolant, trans fluid and small stuff like that... it adds up so quick

Luckily I bought the gaskets back in 2005 when I was all geared up for this, so I may have it covered. But I will definitely double check them and see if there's anything missing.

I only ask this becuase there are lots of these types of lists for building bicycles, but I haven't seen any such list for a motore (probably becuase they're all difference), but would like something for our cars so I can make sure I'm not forgetting things when I order them. There's nothing worse than ordering a lot of parts and realizing you forgot something when it all comes in and you're held up yet again.

OT: As far as the bike goes, I'm too much of a bike snob. The cheapest bike I found that I'd even consider buying is $1000. but the one I actually want is $1300 (and I was getting it for $500 new). I sold my old one to fund it and the deal fell through leaving me with cash. I'll just live with my road bike for now.

Also, what's the deal with the accessory bolts. Is there kit out there that covers it or has anyone put together a list of which bolts are needed and where to get them? I have a feeling I may have lost a few of those . . .

I have a spreadsheet with just about everything you would need for a build. It's for a 351w however but it has most everything you would need minus materials like RTV. If you would like I could post it for you.

This sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. I would love for you to attach this, or PM me if you would rather email it!

Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire

There is a link to it since you can't attach spreadsheets via the forums.

Like I said it has most everything you would need. Some stuff is missing mainly belts, and small drivetrain components.

Shame on you Adam for bringing up bikes when he's talking about spending money on his car! So I'm kinda confused at the parts you have. Do you just have an engine and no transmission or anything? What is your goal for the car right now? Just to get it running?

I have almost everything but the heads, cam rockers and a bunch of smaller parts. I think. My engine has been torn apart since 2005 when I had a 347 short block built for it. Excuses aside, it's still sitting in my garage. I think I may have lost some parts and I know I sold a few that would not be compatible with the new combo including the old heads. So I'm putting together everything I need to get it running again. I plan to buy the big parts I want like the heads and cam, but the rest I will go cheapie on since most other parts are easily upgraded.

Well there's a guy up here that parts out fox bodies a lot, but he just picked up a 94 gt, which is where I'm getting my t-5 conversion from. If there's stock parts that you need let me know, I'll PM you his e-mail addy
