COMPRESSED OXYGEN

Zex makes a kit that i read about. Basically it works with their own conical style air filter, and shoots the air straight into the end of the filter/intake tube. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than N2O, and i would think it's a hell of a lot safer. I think if you do a web search for their site you should be able to find something more about it.

I think the basic principle of the system is that compressed air comes out very cold, which of course makes the motor run stronger. It's not a forced induction sort of thing.
 
compressed oxygen isnt all that safe either. but its still a little safer than n2o. using it just as a quick cooling of intake air would be like running a small shot of n2o which does the same thing. run like a 15 or 25 shot and it will do the same thing. a buddy of mine was gonna do this with his supercharged saleen, but hes just putting a different pulley on it now.
 
N2O is liquid in the bottle, oxygen is not. There the volume of gas that can fit in a bottle of n20 is much greater. Think of it like an air compressor. You would have to have a huge bottle to make any difference and even at that it wouldnt cool things down much campared to n20 because the cooling effect of the n20 boiling during the pressure change would not be present with plain oxygen. If cooling is what you want check out cryo2's stuff

Yeah, but your air compressor needs the large volume because it's at 150lbs pressure. Compressed oxygen is at 2000lbs.
 
I actually found something that may be of use and explain why compressed O2 generally isn't used for performance applications.

Read the paragraph at the bottom of this page. To summarize, the nitrogen in N2O acts to cool the intake gases and control the dramatic rise in combustion temperatures associated with the increased concentration of oxygen. Pure oxygen sprayed into the engine would likely create such intense heat that it would melt your engine.

Theoretically, one could possibly meter the oxygen via electronically controlled solenoids and oxygen can be put into liquid form. However, if there is ever an accident, I wouldn't want to be near anything that may create a spark. BOOM!! Ever see a nitrous bottle blow? There was a post a few years back where this guy's nitrous tank blew up while in his garage. Let's just say there wasn't much left of his car or the garage. Now, imagine pure oxygen...it'd probably leave nothing but a crater in the ground.

The bottle does not weigh that, that is the pressure inside, likely 150-200lbs it would fit in a hatch for sure and you can get smaller bottles. If that is what you meant. :flag:

Oxygen is not flammable, it aids combustion. A spark around oxygen will just become a bigger spark. Never used an oxy-acetylene torch?
 
you guys crack me up. autoxr1 said it perfectly. n20 lowers the intake charge temp. the n20 is actually boiling as it changes pressures and turns from liquid to gas. yes you can get volume with oxygen (look at scuba tanks) and yes you can put it under high pressure, but the temp is the practically stable. i fill both n20 bottles at the track and co2 bottles. both are stable and recomended. whats the goal?????? cheaper version of n20? i sell the stuff for 4 bucks a pound at the track or delivered. how cheap do you want a proven performer, i have heard of people paying as little as 2 per pound.
