Computer Litterally Smoked...cause?

I smoked a new computer somehow. I put it in, and a few seconds later, it smoked. The previous computer was fine I guess, but I thought it was causing a idle problem, so I replaced it.

What checks should I make before installing the new computer just to be sure I'm not going to smoke this one?
