Depends if he has the feel for speed. 400rwhp would get old really fast to me. After that he is looking at a hell of alot of money to pull the motor out and forge that 4v. Somewhere around the $10,000 mark. After that the fuel system will cost a couple more thousand. Then the transmission will have to be upgraded. So on and so on.... And from the sounds of it I don't think he can afford the blower alone. Let alone what else would be needed after that...

ok..... the stock 4.6 blocks have been known to go up over 1000hp with good internals, hell even the stock GT's will take 400rwhp all day

you can buy built shortblocks thatll handle 800+hp for under 3K

an 03/04 cobra tank, dual SVT pumps and a KB boost-a-pump will handlt a ton of power

and anyways i dont think he is looking to build a race car, just looking for a newer/fun daily driver and weighing his options

Don't worry about Stopsign, he can't reason beyond his own flawed logic. If you want a newer Mustang, and think that may be a way to go for you, go out and test drive one.

They run heads and shoulders over a stock 94-95 all day long and can get pretty quick with a few bolt ons and gears. A STOCK sn95 will do @ 160rwhp on a MUSTANG dyno to answer your question. I think it'd be easier to shoe string a fast car with the newer model, less things for mechanics to have to touch, and not worry about all the little 'what if's or issues with ripping your engine down.

I think you'd best fare to ask this question in the 4.6 forums. Most interweb car forums' sub section are filled with onesided thoughts. Too much negativity and you will see ganging up and your thread closed. Be happy you are asking about Mustangs.

All said, a newer PI 2v car can be found for 8-9k with low miles and really nice shape. That will leave you with a faster out of the box car to get used to, and $ to set aside to build further if you chose.

Never listen to anyone but YOURSELF and make decisions for you. Go try one and write back, not get suggestions from strangers.

IF your worried about spending money on your 95, and not be covered with insurance, then get a stated value policy from a company like haggerty, jc taylor, grundy ect... But like was stated before, if your worried about spending money, find a new hobby.

The t-5 will be just fine with 300 rwhp. Maybe EVENTUALLY it will go, but it will take awhile. Rio95s t-5 last 2 years with his car making 525 rwhp. You'd be ok.

hahahahaha. I'm sorry, but this is funny.

I say if you sell it, there is one option and one option only and that is a 96-98 Cobra. End of story.

Get gears, exhaust, and some drag radials and your will be pretty content with speed for awhile. Then a couple years down the road throw an s-trim on it and you will be happy for a long time.

You shouldnt have a problem finding a well priced 96-98 Cobra. Here in NC they go for 8-10k with about 30k on one. I know of a nice 97 Cobra for sale right now for 9k. I wouldnt bother with a 2V over a 5.0. I have a 03 GT and its fun, and all, but parts for my 95 are a lot cheaper.

you'll be sorry. I've had about.. 10-15 5.0s over the last 3 years (I know). And I bought my first 4.6, and now, a year later, i'm selling it because its to slow, much more expensive, even though it's a super nice car. Daily driver yes, performance, i wouldn't even come close to calling it a performance car. 5.0 is the only way to go if you want to go fast, and they can be reliable as a modular any day with the right amount of attention. I'm tellin ya, you'll be sorry, I sure am that I sold my 92.....

wait till you start modding it, money for money the 5.0 is SOOOO much cheaper to go fast. Try 800 bucks for parts, more if its a 4 valve, just to do cams, while worrying the whole time about bending a valve. I thought the same, but when it comes down to it you will have one sore ass and one sore wallet when your done modding that 4.6, because modular performance sure knows how to make you take it up the ass. Been there done that. Not trying to be a dick but it will always be a serious mistake that I made, and I hate to see someone else to do the same.

Ah yea, and the fact you cant make over 350hp N/A with a 2v GT, even the most skilled barely make more, and thats with a very unfriendly driver car.

Don't feel I'm being critical in any way

I just want to point out that when I look at your sig

I can certainly see you have put some money in your Stang

But if you look at the mods ........
most of them would not be what you you'd call ... power mods

If talkin NA Power .............

I'd rather drive a 300 rwhp H/C/I 5.0 Stang
than any of the 4v Cobra's that put out a bit over 300

Yes they are smooth
but
They just don't have the same feel IMHO

I sure do understand about spending money on the Stang
so
I had to focus on my #1 priority

More power and more importantly .........

A power band of my choosing

Since I only had so much money I could spend ........

I don't have the wheels of my choice
and
I don't have the lowered stance or suspension of my choice as well
but
When I press the skinny pedal ......
those concerns are replaced with a smile and sense of satisfaction

I'd tell you to ... Get some hot rod parts that will up your 5.0 power

Grady

Why? That's what I've watched them make before on that type of dyno

A rated 215 at the flywheel, on an 'unforgiving' dyno doesn't really put it that out of line. Granted that's about 10 lower than a 20% value, which seems to be on par with most mustang dyno's vs. a dynojet. Perhaps the one at Powerhouse Automotive is extra stingy

I made 296/315 on the same dyno. My car gets it pretty damn good. I'm getting some track #s this friday with it. I realize my other thread posting where I was discouraged vs. the LS1 mod for mod however I have no more doubts about cars with like two bolt ons going 12s.

FWIW, my DEAD STOCK 5.0, that probably DID make it's 160 'range' to the wheels couldn't even break 90mph at our local track 14.9 @ 89.xx. on a 2.1 60' The numbers really aren't that far off from how they perform; they aren't exactly the fastest cars stock.

Just some food for thought.

but see, i never really mentioned anything about modding the 4.6. . Gears, exhaust ( minus headers ), wheels/tires, springs....that all costs the same if its a 4.6 or a 5.0

i have about $2300 worth of hot rod parts new in the box, minus heads. but when you figure in heads, gaskets, bolts, labor, dyno tune, etc etc. , theres another $2200 at least

also, the money i have spent on the car now didnt all go for go-fast goodies. i had to get the paint back in shape, maintenance, rearend ( completely gone thru) and several other unmentioned things that just add up

^ SO true. I have twice as much in other areas other than the engine on mine. About 2k+ in body and paint/details. Car is a 9.5/10 in person. Wheels/tires, full suspension with all the goodies, Cobra brakes and maintenence, Rearend w/ the 4:10s.

It adds up fast that's for sure.
