Console lighting

Hi, I'm new to the community. I currently have a 65 coupe that I recently put a full length console in, and I cannot figure out how the compartment light is supposed to come on. I've read a few things that say the compartment door makes contact with the light but the door doesn't come close to it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks Brian....My console only has the opening on the back plate, not on the top like yours. It's nice to see one that actually works! I appreciate your reply!
