Contemplating an exhaust system...

Hey guys. I drive a stock 94 Gt Convertible Auto and I was considering which exhaust system to get for my car. At first I was thinking BBK shorty headers, BBK Catless H-pipe, exiting out of a flowmaster force II system. However, after a bit of research Ive learned that bbk's stuff tends to fit like crap and isnt of the best quality. Im on a budget and now am considering mac shorty headers and a mac o/r h-pipe. What do you guys think? Also, what do you guys think of the force II system, Ive heard that it isnt quite as loud as some other systems, however, that would be good because maybe it'll cancel out some of the added noise ill get from the removal of the cats...

I had a convertible with a Flowmaster exhaust system on it and the stock "H" pipe and it was pretty annoying at highway speeds [serious drone]. Now that I've got my 94 coupe 5 speed I went with an OR "X" pipe and kept the stock catback system and it sounds great. Nice burbling idle, nice growl on accelleration and a very nice sound at crusing speed. IMHO it's got just the right sound.

You may want to try just the headers and OR "X" pipe first and see how you like it. You can always add mufflers or a catback later.

I left stock mufflers and changed the crossover pipe with a bassani off road X pipe on my car initally, and IMO it sounded very high pitched, not BAD, just not very deep. In hindsight, I actually kind of liked the sound.

Now I have the Roush/Magnaflow side pipes in combination with the offroad X, and it has a GREAT sound, but its _incredibly_ loud with no cats.

I wouldnt hesitate to recommend the stainless magnaflows though you might want to get at least a high flow cat to keep the high rpm sound down a little and to avoid some of the popping type sound that comes with rapid deceleration without cats.

www.mustangexhaust.com is your friend. Register and you can listen to tons of sound clips. BBK does not fit like crap, if anything MAC is worse, although I've had no problems with either company.

I think either of these are good for the price...you get what you pay for
Force II is quieter than AT, I like AT more, sound good when you romp it

Hmmm...So im thinking of going either bbk or mac shorties, o/r h-pipe, and flowmaster force II catback. Should be loud enough when I want it to be but at least somewhat docile when crusing. Anyone have a different idea. Thanks again for the responses, and I searched btw just looking for more specific answers.

when I got my car it came with stock hearder, mac-h pipe and force IIs. It sounds pretty good but if I did my own I think I would go with an X-pipe

Go full Mac....Long tubes/Prochamber/MAC catback w/2.5 tails....Most people who have run the Mac mufflers say they sound nice....
Depends on how loud you want???? You dump the cats, throw an H and put super loud muffs on it....now you have to contend with the bigtime drone and the attention loud gets you... Depends on how the cops/State Troopers are in your area to...
I would say an X or Prochmber is gonna tone it down compared to the H...

I still have my stock mufflers and will throw then on when I get tired of the noise...sometimes it gets old...

When I bought my vert, the owner before me had put on full Mac exhaust. It's got shortys,prochamber, and catback with 2.5" tips. It's sounds really good imo, very throaty and plenty loud w/o being annoying. Mac's a decent company in terms of quality, they make good inexpensive stuff. Personally, I want to get some BBK Long Tubes, o/r h and a bassani catback. but the setup I have is pretty decent for the price.

I can vouch on that system. The prochamber isn't as loud as an H pipe and is smoother and a tad quieter but is proven to make more power than an H. The flowpaths are great also, they aren't as overdone as the flowmasters are. They are a little deeper and sound a lot more clean. But aren't as quiet as a force II etc... I get tons of compliments on my exhaust system all the time. My boss likes my exhaust over his son's (equals, o/r H, and 2 chambered flows). Heres a clip of mine (need quicktime to play)

That is just the prochamber and flowpaths. I don't have a clip of it yet with the unequals on. BTW, if you need another video (14mb) i have the before (with flowpaths) and the after (with prochamber) vid. Let me know

PS. the crackling you hear in the begining of the video is because my timing was adjusted too high that day. I assure you the exhaust doesn't make any poping noises or anything at all.

Flowpaths sound good, but I think I prefer the sound of flowmasters. Sure, Ive been hearing that practically all my life, but it still hasnt gotten old. I wanna finally have that sound coming out of my car. Anyone have sound clips of an o/r h-pipe + shorty headers all coming out of a force 2, Im gonna check out all the sound clip websites again and see of they have that. Also, I considered long-tubes but there are so many potholes and speedbumps in NYC I dont wanna have to worry about scraping and ****. Thanks again guys.

Congratulations, if you buy that setup you posted, you will sound like 75% of Mustangs in the world. Venture out of the crowd when it comes to exhaust.

Heh, I dont know, Ive always loved that sound tho... whatever, any more suggestions are aprreciated.
