conv to flywheel?

im helping a friend with his car and he has a 351 with a turbo 400 tranny the car is on plates. he is having porblems with tranns brake and park not working so we pulled the tranny. his mid plate is only 1/8 think but he has about 1/4 inch of movement. will that pull the conv out of the pump at 1 time i was told 3/16 max

Does he run spacers between the pads on the converter and the flexplate? 1/4" shouldn't pull it out, but you can double check it while it is out of the car. The thin mid plate is just like using the stock block protector...
