conv. top questions

The one on the car now looks like crap. It has like 4-5 tears in it and it needs to be replaced. The top part and the other parts that's around the glass. I've looked in MM&FF and also 5.0 Mustang that both of them combined cost around $300.

My questions are if I can install it I don't get the warranty that comes with the top? How much does it cost to get a new top installed from a dealer? or anybody else that could do yet retain the warranty. I"m from PA if that helps.

From what I have read, installing a conv top is a very difficult undertaking. One that really requires a lot of previous experience.

I have a conv too, and I am not looking forward to enviably having to replace the top. I have also been toying with the possibility of using the much better 2003/2004 Cobra top, or the 40th Anniversary top (same thing as Cobra). I am wondering if the mechanicals are all the same?

Dealer had to replace my entire top because of a faulty defroster. Invoice was $1500. It was covered under warranty.
