Convertible sound setup 99-04

I am thinking about taking the back speakers out and replacing them with custom fiberglass enclosures that will hold a pair of JL 6w0s (or 8s if I can get them to fit, doubtful). I am going to put a pair of alpine SPx-177as up front. As far as amps, probably a mono class D for the subs (mid level brand line alpine or something) and a nice 2 channel for the comps.

I haven't decided on the head unit, I like the idea of keeping that stock as to not draw attention to it. It depends on how much signal loss I have going through a line level converter.

If you don't mind loosing trunk space I would put a 10 or 12 in the back. Personally I want to keep the trunk space.

If you are going for SPL, my solution wouldn't be for you. I am more into SQ and I don't listen to much rap (and no hip hop).

00 vert

i've got a 00 vert and i'm going to customize the back seat b/c i have a 50resto style bar and that basically eliminates anyone in the abck seast
i have a JVC El Kameleon head unit w/ the factory door speakers and i have 2 Infinity Kappa subs. I have a kenwood 425 watt amp and its' pumping great power to both 10s.
i'll keep ya updated on my box.....i plan on removing both seats, and i'm making a custom ice chest and storage compartment on the bottom and then i'm coming off the top and have my subs firing down to get maximum sound.....i'll post pics with each progression......though it will be a couple of weeks to a month to get the whole thing done

If you plan carefully enough, you can get a ton of stuff in your trunk and still have room for the boot. I have 3 10" JL Pro Audio 10w6's in a vacuum sealed box; negative 10 pounds. That allows you to make the box super small. Made it out of fiberglass and molded it in behind the rear quarter panels. I then have a sound field controller, 4 alpine amps, 4 crossovers for the Boston Acoustics components (6", 4" & Tweets; front & rear), 2 Farad caps, 12 disc changer, all phoenix gold interconnects, etc etc... it's all in my trunk and I can still fit the convertible boot. The only problem is the added weight over the rear wheels. I had to stiffen the suspension and then do some minor engine mods (cold air & chip) to bring it back to acceptable performance. An extra 400 lbs does a lot.

As far as the 8's in the rear, I had JL 8's in mine... I had to make a cusom bracket.. no biggie.. but one warning... make sure the braket clears the top mechanism. I made a boo boo myself. I ended up taking out the 8's as I found I needed more mid-high ranges when the top was down... the 3 10's have plenty of punch so the 8's came out and the BA 6" went in.
