I'm seeing conflicting info about the top in the car mags. Most say that it is a multi layer without exposed framework but the latest one said that it was a single layer and the bows, etc are exposed inside. Which is the truth? The multi layer will definitely be quieter for my Autobahn cruises. My 90 LX tends to be very loud over 80 MPH which is sort of annoying plus it's hard to hear the CD/MP3. A lot of the tests indicated that the convertible was one of the least noisy on the market. I'm not talking about engine or exhaust noise, it's the wind I'm concerned about!

It is a three layer top just like the type that was used on the 2003/2004 Cobras and the 2004 40th anniversary edition convertibles.

The other '94-'04 Mustangs used a two layer top.

I don't think that Mustangs used a single layer top; at least not in recent memory.

Maybe I wasn't specific enough. My 90 LX convertible top has the bows exposed but I've had convertibles in the past that had an inner liner (and possibly some insulation) that both covered the top bows and also made the car as quiet as a coupe while traveling. How is the new mustang convertible made, with or without an inner liner?

I had the same question, but bought a vert

Hello!

The 2005 'stang verts have an inner liner and a vinyl outer. There is one stabilization bow ( a flat bow in the front area ) on the "inside" surface of the headliner.

As far as tops go, the materials are extremely similar to my old Sebring vert. It's relatively quiet, and sounds almost (read: almost) like a sedan/coupe on the inside when the top is up because of the nice liner.

Thanks, that was what I was hoping someone would be able to tell me. Cruising speeds on the Autobahn are considerably higher than they are on the Interstates and my LX convertible tends to get quite noisy over 85 or so.

I just picked up mine last week and I've had her up to 100mph (still breaking in)on the autobahn. Top Up and Top Down . I also had a 89 Convert and it was loud as hell doing 80 mph, this thing is quiet. You really can hardly hear any wind noise at that speed. There is a liner inside so no there is no open beams to look at like the '89 vert.

Hey Mannheim, I'm just down the road from you in Hockenheim, actually I bought my car from Eddie Kane probably where you bought yours. Mine is not due until October but I'm looking forward to getting it. Thanks for the info.
