I have a 1991 convertible that needs a new windshield. Anyone ever try this? What order do you remove the trim and what tools did you use? Screws up on the top frame? I'll be practicing on the donor car as long as i don't F it up(prepay) Any advice or ideas would be appreciated.
The only thing I can tell you is that I don't know of a source for the trim. The lower by the cowl is the same across submodels, but the side is unique to convertibles.
Please take plenty of pictures. There's not a lot out there on this.
metal trim best to get from someone parting out as I don't believe they make repops. They are slid on and held on by sticky foam and tape. Top metal trim piece held in by a screw and more foam. Remove the cowl cover with 6 screws, the wiper blades and the two hockey stick moldings. You'll want to remove the interior plastic pillar pieces to gain access which come out fairly easy with screws. taking the windshield out is done by using a razor on the butyl inside and out and gently pushing on it. Two man job and often it cracks even if you are careful.

Can you get the hockey stick molding along the cowl out without removing the sides? I need to paint my cowl and I'd prefer to pull those off and replace.

yep, easy. After you remove the plastic cowl cover they come out easy using a plastic body molding tool. the hockey sticks slide into the bottom of the metal windshield trim.
Hey mikestang, I know this is kind of an old thread but what kind of foam and adhesive did you use when you reinstalled your trim? I'm getting my vert windshield replaced and at the same time cleaning off all the old crap and repainting the trim.
I use the 1/4 foam tape the sell in the parts stores by the weatherstripping. I also use 3m weatherstrip adhesive behind the rubber weatherstrip. You can also use black silicone. I like the tube for the caulk gun.
