I'd like to convert to 5 lug so I can run 18" Saleen wheels on my stang. Not sure what kit to buy, how much it cost?? I'd also like to convert the rear drums to Disc and figured I could do all this at once. What do you guys recommend?

If you haven't already, READ Matt's website http://svo73mm.cjb.net

As far as kits, the cheapest "kit" is the SVO front rotors and 5 lug drum rears for around $300-400, BUT you can not run many wheels with that front setup. Not sure if the Saleens would work, but probably not. For the SN95 setup, you can get a used "kit" from $300 for the fronts and $450-500 for the disc rear from places like www.stangparts.com. Of course you can shop around and get the parts separately for as little as $100 for the front and maybe $150-200 for the rear if you are lucky and patient in your search. I spent about $600 on mine, with mostly new parts, calipers, rotors, pads, MC & PV. There are many other little parts you need, so read the parts list on Matt's website to find it all out.

Good luck!

Cool thanks, I want to do that when I get the extra $$ around. So the Sn95's will work on the Saleen wheels, but remember I'm dropping down to 15" for slicks on the track. Does that really matter? I wouldn't think so.

As long as you stick with the basic V6 & GT rotors in the front and back, you will be fine. Of course the 13" rotors Cobra will look much better behind those Saleen wheels, but they do require at least 17" wheels.

I did it. Yes it is expensive. For the price I paid, I could have bought a supercharger. But having strong brakes does kick much ass. I called every junkyard in Minnesota and could not find any trashed out SN-95 brake parts. So I bought a kit from dave's mustang parts. I paid 1100.00 for a complete kit. This included everything. So I bought 99 Cobra's and tires. That was another 1100.00. Then I had to buy a master cylinder, brake pads, new parking brake cables, adjustable proportioning valve, plug for the valve, misc fittings, gear fluid, friction modifier, new wheel bearings in the rear and axle seals, Maximum Motorsports Caster Camber Plates, and 99 Dual piston calipers. Remember they bolt up directly to the 94-98 rotors. Add another 600.00-700.00 for all that stuff. I forgot the prices. Was it worth it? To me yes and no. I have an 86 and have major wheel rub in the front. I am running 245/45/17's all around. I also have a leaking fitting on the passenger side caliper. The wheel bearing in front on that side is going out too. One of the things you have to consider when you buy used parts. Other than that, it stops on a dime, and you join that club of fox bodies that have done a 5 lug conversion, the way it was meant to be. Plus you lose the ugly drum brakes. I did not upgrade to 13 inch Cobra calipers, and am not going to. I stop just fine. I paid on the high end for my conversion, so you will probably get it cheaper, unless you buy the kit from Ford which is about 1800.00. Up to you, but to do it right, it isn't cheap. But if you have the funds. Do it.

How cheap do you want to go? If you just want 5 lug and don't have to have the giant brakes, you can go REAL cheap.

You will need the following.....

Qty 2 of drivers side axle from a 83-92 Ranger 7.5 rear end only (or the passenger side from a Aerostar, all the same I think)
Qty 2 5 lug outer brake drums from the same vehicle

These axles and drums are exactly the saem as the stock 4 lug mustang parts, but they are 5 lug.

Qty 2 Lincoln Mark VII/rear drive early 80's Continental Front Rotors Inner or outer bearings are a little different. Get the inner and outer bearings for both vehicels (mustang & Lincoln) and return which ever is the wrong size. CAUTION - the Mark VII/Continetial rotors may prevent the center cap from the R wheels from snapping into the center of the wheel.

These rotors are the saem diameter as the stock 87-93 Mustang V8 rotor and they are 5 lug. This is THE cheapest way. My friend got the axles from a parts recycler for $60 bucks/pr and the rotors are like $70 ea brand new (get non-ABS version)

What about rear disc brakes? How much do you think I'm looking at? Or should I spend the $$ on a baer system?

Again, it depends on how much you want to look for parts. A friend got SN95 axles for $50 local, and SN95 calipers, rotors and brackets on ebay for about $60 + 35 shipping. www.stangparts.com has "complete" used rear disc kits for about $500 + shipping for practically the same parts. I can buy a complete rear end locally from a salvage yard for that price! IMO, a decent price for a good SN95 rear disc setup would be around $250-300 or so. Plus you have all the extra parts, MC, adapters, ebrake cables, brake lines, etc. that can run $100-200 more.

You're worrying about how expensive the swap is and want to run 18" saleens....damn man, go price that wheel combo. It ain't cheap!

Seriously tho, i did a 5 lug front and rear disc conversion with 95gt stuff(booster,mc as well) and 2000gt pbr calipers. With everything minus rims/tires i had around $600 in it...including new e brake cables, modified e brake handle, prop valve, all fittings(including the 3-2 port, rear soft to hard line and front hard to soft line),prop plug, new front and rear soft lines. Could even be done cheaper, depending on what deal you find.
