Cool Quote From Ticketing Officer

In my 1998 Cobra Roush about 20 miles of four or five lane lightly traveled highway in northern Cali I get challenged by an M5 beemer. We "play" all the way from Cupertino to San Bruno. My stang's needle was burried at times. As I got to the exit first :-D I wait for the red light when all of a sudden a CHP does all he can to not slam into me as the intersection is kind of blind off the freeway. I'm like "Crap! Who's he after?" Next thing I know, he's screeming at me to get out of the car. He claimed that the two of us blew past him at over 160mph. I never saw him. He asked three or four times how fast I was going. I maintained that I did not know. As I wait for him to run my license, a helicopter is obviuosly looking for someone as I overhear Chipper's radio that they caught the beemer. Turns out that Duder with a badge working with me was in high speed persuit after us for over 10 minutes but never caught up. So... I get a ticket for 99+ in a 65 which I believe is an infraction. Next I get the summons and request to calendar my hearing as far out as possible - I get 5+ months. A week before the date, I call and re-calandar for as far out as possible - I get another 4 months. BUT, two weeks later, I received a dismissal notice in the mail. All charges dropped. I often wonder if beemer boy was so lucky.

Yes, you do. But my ticket is no longer a moving violation, so it's not reported to the insurance, and no points on my license. In Missouri, I think that would have been a 3 point violation, and I believe you get suspended at 12 points.

One ticket (this was my first in 11 years) wouldn't have been a big deal. But if I get another...my mustang was only a month old. What are the chances? Not that my driving habits have changed much - I'm just in a more eye-catching car.

So anyway, that's why I was willing to pay $400 for a $141 ticket. And then it was only $250 - I was quite pleased.

A couple years ago I was going home from work at around 10:30 at night. I was in an industrial zone (right next to Kaman Aircraft) when I got pulled over by a state trooper. He asks me, "Do you want to explain why you were going 65 miles an hour in a 25 mph zone?"

I just told him, "Listen, I have no excuse - I've been on the road siince 7:30 this morning. I live a mile down the road, I'm tired and I want to get home. I have no excuse". He asked me when was the last time I was pulled over. I replied that he wasn't going to believe me, but in 33 years of driving I'd never been pulled over I don't know how it is possible, but it is true).

He just said, "Take it easy next time." and let me go without even a warning!

And I wonder why insurance costs so much and there are so many injuries and damage to vehicles on the road? Anyone ever heard of obeying the speed limit and going fast only on a race track or where it's legal?

Back home in Texas, I got pulled over a LOT between the ages of 16 and 20. By the time I was 22, I was pretty much a reformed driver, but I had a record.

One evening during my senior year of college, I'm coming home from the library (honest!) and a cop pulls me over. My '66 Mustang had a headlight out. It's late, and this is a college town, so the officer gives me a DWI test, which I pass. Then he calls in my license.

I can hear the dispatcher over the radio: "Six feet one, brown hair, blue eyes ... (pause) ... NUMEROUS moving violations ..."

The cop starts busting up laughing. "Son," he says, "if they can't count 'em up, you got a bunch!"

The he lets me go.

I got pulled over once, not for speeding, but because I had just moved to Cleveland and bought myself a 27 inch Sony Wega and was transporting it in the back seat of my Neon. I got pulled over by 3 cop cars! They said I was under the speed limit but I was swerving. I was like ok! Whatever you say. He gave me a warning and then asks me if I have drugs in the car. And im like what are you talking about? He was like we just want to make sure that you are not carrying any illegal substances or anything such. I was like No. He then walks to the car and asks the same question to my buddy in the passenger seat.
I think he was HIGH! Cleveland Cops! SIGH!!!

I'm more concerned about cars pulling out in front of me and others' failure to yeild right of way, than me speeding by a few miles per hour. Think about it, the speed limit is set for the lowest common denominator: unskilled motorists, elderly with biologically poor reaction time, new motorists with no experience, and aging/poorly maintained vehicles that are barelly street legal. And yes, I think my brand new, immaculately mainted high performance automobile with a trained (yes I've taken track schools and I have several racing licenses) driver is capable of safely exceding the posted speed limit by a slight margin without harm to society.

Then again, the law is the law. But like Sammy said, "I can't drive 55".

Speed limits are set for safety and fuel conservation, not for "the lowest common denominator". I agree with your comment about cars pulling out in front of you though. I cycle (the non-motorized kind ) and cars think that they're the only moving things on the road and that they OWN IT. They don't. I'm much more aware of who is occupying the roadway (motorcycles, cars, trucks, bikes, etc.) than the average driver. My 2nd pet peeve is people merging onto the freeway who think that they have the right of way! When you're merging, you don't have the right...even if you have a lifted 4WD or a very fast Porsche...IT IS NOT YOURS!

Finally, there is a street right by my house that is about .4 miles long, extremely wide with light traffic. It's an inlet into residential neighborhoods. The local Rice Club has mistaken it for a 1/4 mile track. At night, I've witnessed them lineup 3 wide and race...stupid and dangerous. Cars enter onto that street regularly. I've taken it upon myself to call the local PD more than once to stop these fools before they kill one of my neighbors or ME!

Bottom line, if you want to truly race take it to the track...not public streets and highways.

Wasnt in a Mustang and was a long long time ago, but in retrospect it was funny.

1969.
I had just graduated (at 17) and was working the summer in Harrington Kansas.
Lot of local teens were on the crew, laying underground telephone cables. Didnt have my car there (56 Chevy 365 hp 327, had the tranny broken at that time.), and having made friends with the locals was invited to a keg party. Drinking age was 18 at that time. So one of the guys left his parents 61 Plymouth, slant six, pushbutton auto for me to come out to the keg party. I had a couple of brews and was headed out. Came to a stop sign and rolled through it when I saw the local cop right behind me. As I didnt want a ticket for rolling through the stop sign, and having a couple of brews (which heightened my thinking) I thought of only one thing. I punched it.
2 miles out of town I had it flat on the floor doing 85 he got me to pull over.
He walks up and says "What's your name boy?!" I reply "Randy Bullock". He misunderstanding says "Bullet, you drive like one! Your under arrest get in the car!"
They haul me in, resisting arrest, 65 in a 55 in town, 85 in a 65 on the highway. Thoughts of stolen car but I told them the deal and wasnt charged with that. Never checked to see if I had been drinking. 90 bucks or jail so I got one of the cops to go with me to the hotel and pay the fine.
Folks at the keg party heard the sirens and thought bust and broke that up.
Not my most shining moment.
Even funnier about 6 mos later I was home. My dad drove an oil field tanker, and had had a flat. Called and wanted me to bring him a tire. I loaded on up and drove out to where he was. As I was helping him change it he started this story about a kid getting in trouble up in Kansas. I couldn't believe he knew it. Turns out after I paid the fine, they called him and asked him to pay it. In a fathers ultimate wisdom he replied, "He got himself in it, he can get himself out".

In my defense I am imeasurably more mature these days and rarely drink.

It's nice to see a police officer with high respect for the laws they've sworn to uphold and the people they've sworn to protect! It's actually irritating to many of us "civilians".

Just got caught with my 05 doing 62 in a 40 zone. Officer: "Do you know how fast you were going?" Me:"I think around 50" Officer:"These things don't drive that smooth!"

I pull up to a redlight with a police car to the left of me.

He motions for me to roll down the window.

me: hey, whats up.
officer: want to trade cars for the day?
me: do I get to play with the lights and sirens?
officer: sure.
me: do I get to borrow your gun too.. you know.. just in case.
officer: (laughs) Beautiful car.. take care.
me: have a good one.

Guess he didnt want me to borrow his gun

I got pulled over a few weeks ago and let off but right before he let me go he said, "Just because you have a performance vehicle doesn't mean you have to drive it like it's one."

Edit: I forgot, I was also getting flowers for my prom date and the shop is next to a police station. As I am walking back out to my car two cops come out and check out my car and ask to take a look. The female cop has a look around and compliments me on my ride and thankfully doesnt say anything about me not having a front license plate.

I got pulled over 41 hours after getting my GT for doing 90+ in a 60 or 65. Picked her up Friday night, pulled over Sunday and didn't have proof of insurance etc. Pulls up beside me literally screaming with spit coming out his mouth - he was pisd. Ran my license, told him I've had no moving violations since the late 80's (which is true). Told me "you've got a real nice ride there ... but there is a time and a place for what you just did, and this ain't it - drive safe". And off I went. Of course, I shook his hand twice and said thank you atleast 3 times
