Coolant leak on a 98 gt

Hello! I have a 98 mustang gt with the old plastic crossover intake. I noticed coolant pooling in the valley under the intake. I figured mine finally cracked, but when I took it off today I couldn't find any cracks. I thought maybe at higher rpms is when it leaks. Anyone have any ideas on this? I'm going to buy the Livernois kit this week but want to make sure it's not something else that I might be missing.

the cracks on those intakes can be hard to see.. it must have had a hairline crack in it..some of the ones I have done I never saw the crack

^^ that and the fact that many of the 96-98 cars are now getting close to being 10 years old and have seen many miles and much abuse. Mine was holding up fine until I started doing some more higher-RPM pulls out of town with it and then it finally gave way. I'd bet the next year or two will be jam packed with 96-98 guys blowing out all over the place.

Mine cracked early. They all will crack sooner or later. The coolant eats the plastic.

Thanks for all the replies. I hardly ever beat on my car but these last couple weeks I've been running the rpms up higher than I normally do. Now I can buy the PI intake kit with confidence. I was worried that it was something.

Another quick question. Am I going to have to get this thing tuned when I put the PI intake on? I've heard of guys doing this without a tune. I guess if I want the most out of the intake I should get one , but money is tight so I'm hoping to do this without a it.

No you shouldn't need a tune. I did both the PI intake AND cams and haven't tuned it. The car has seen redline a couple times since the swap and it's ran fine, no problems to speak of. I still will be getting it tuned just for the fact that it's getting a lot more air than before, but it's not a priority being as it's going byebye for the next 3-4 months til the snow stops flying.

You should tune it man. Dont take that risk of running lean or sell your self short of another 5-10 hp either

I had a 97 GT and it was the Intake Manifold that had cracked and was leaking coolant... Would be good time to upgrade to PI heads and Intake. If your interested in upgrading I have a brand new PI Intake Manifold and PI heads and cams off a 2002 GT with 22,000 miles on it if your interested

I got my Livernois PI intake yesterday evening and had the car together by 930 last night. At first I was concerned when I started it up and the car was idleing real bad till I realized I forgot to hook up my MAF sensor and the other one on my air intake...ooops. Took it around the block then left it sit overnight. Checked the coolant this morning had to add some then left it warm up then drove it for like 20 mins then the coolant light came on so I pulled over left it cool down some then added more then dove it again. Drove it for another 15-20mins no low coolant light so to the highway I went. All I can say is WOW. It breaks loose in second gear now which took me by surprise. Wish I could have done the cam swap at least but I'd rather have aftermarket cams. Think I'll buy a set of PI heads without cams then add them to it. But overall I'm very pleased. Gotta save some money and get it tuned. Can I use my factory computer whe I get it tuned or will I need something like a SCT?

I would recomend the sct or one of the hand helds. you caqn have multiple tunes with those i beleive, sct for sure. you may say you wont need extra tunes, but you will, some thing always comes up. for instance, you want to change your fuel injectors, just have them burn a tune on your chip for the new injectors. when you put in the new injectors, just switch the nob on your chip before you start it up. very handy feature. not to mention having multiple octane tunes.
