Running late for work this morning and ran the car hard and when I shut it off I noticed that coolant had spilled out the top of the overflow cap. The car wasnt up to temp yet, and the level has been up to par, I put in a new t-stat,and it hasnt been overheating,any suggestions as to what could cause this? its done it before.

The car wasn't up to temp? as in not up to temp on the gage or not run long enough?
when did you change that thermostat (very recent)?
If I had to vote I would say radiator cap too.

I changed the t-stat along with the intake gasket about a month ago, but the rad cap is well over 3 years old Ill have a new one on it today, and no it wasnt up to temp I drove off after the idle setteled down-it hunts when its cold. actually thinking about it the t-stat would have had to been open to allow coolant to flow back to the radiator, maybe its sticking too?94-302-vert said:
If your Tstat was stuck closed, your engine would have overheated in a hurry. Even if it was stuck open, it shouldn't have caused the overflow to, well, overflow. The rad cap should only open at a set pressure to let coolant go in the overflow and thereby relieve pressure in the system.

I had the same problem about a month ago. It was a faulty t-stat. It would stick every now and then.
Yeah, sounds by what your saying radiator cap is the logical culprit-the ride to work is like 5 minutes, 2 minutes to let the idle settle-shut down for like 10 minutes -realized I wasnt sheduled to work till 1 pm so drove back home another 5 minutes-then got home and noticed the coolant and steam when I shut it down again-so total running time was about 10 12 minutes or so.1TallMF said:
