On a '90 2.3, is the only coolant sensor on the engine the one located on the underside of the intake manifold? I guess what I am asking is, is this the sensor that the ECM uses to determine engine temperature?

The sensor in the block is for the temperature guage.
The sensor in the lower intake is for the computer.

knowing where it is is one thing, but getting to it to replace it is a completly different story. Maybe its just me, but I'm having a helluva time getting a wrench down there.

on my car (92) there is a coolant temp sensor located in the Heater hose as it heads toward the firewall. Real easy to spot, just look for a "T" with a sensor sticking out of it near the firewall on a heater hose. If its there, you will see it.
