Coolest blue engine paint?

I have to pick out a paint color for my engine builder. Been searching the threads and looks like Plasti-kote #224 and Duplicolor DE1606 seem to be the "correct" Ford Dark Blue colors. I remember seeing someones engine on this formum and it looked like an awesome blue but I can't seem to find it again. Duplicolor had a nice template of what looked like blue but it was called Plum Purple - DE1640, might have to get a can and test. Anyone know what "New ford blue" looks like? POR-15 dark blue looked good but my builder probably wouldn't be too thrilled in something that doesn't come in a spraycan.

If you have some handy pics of your blue engine and paint #, it would be appreciated. I'm open to the non-correct darker or brighter blues too, thanks.

Ford had 2 blues, the dark blue and the light blue which i think looks better, try looking at Eastwoods "factory" colors unless you want to go a little different

im currently using the ford blue right now. its a nice paint but remember to put it on very lightly and in multiple coats. if you can,try to find a similar color in the dupont paint line cause it seems to dry quicker then the others.

plasticote ford dark blue. The light blue has too much 'neon' in it for me, though it is correct for some years.

POR 15 is a bit harder to work with but it produced a nicer look.

I used Duplicolor DE1606 out of the spray can and it looks good for the first two years; unless you spill something on it. (mainly gas) After the two year mark it starts to fade to the lighter Ford blue and starts peeling off. I have seen a powder coating used on engine parts, but it stained as well if you spilled gas on it.

por15 engine paint ROCKS!
Looks museum quality, and a small can goes a LONG way!
I say POR15 on the outside, Glyptal on the inside.
That's how I will do all mine from here on out.
Even with a cheap brush, as well as the POR flows, it looks EXCELLENT when complete.

I knew I was going to get a comment on that .

I know, Olds had gold engines, but Ford painted one very famous engine gold and it ended up on the cover of a magazine...

I was wondering how my 302 would look with black/silver valve covers, everything else black and/or silver, and just a gold block. This sis what I did instead:

I use the light Ford Blue beacuse it shows any leaks/potential problems easier. Not the best looking by far though.

I'm thinking black myself. If not black then a dark blue.

I was also wondering how powder coating the block would hold up...

And a special thanks to 65ShelbyClone for the engine pic with the ol' Mickey Thompson valve covers, almost gets me misty remembering my first car - 67 Coupe with centerlines and airshocks for the stinkbug look. The 289 rebuild was put together by a few 19 year old rookie knuckleheads (yes, me included) and it never failed me during those couple dozen long roadtrips back to Socal from Oregon during college. M/T's are awesome (do they still make them?) but I think I'm going with the Cobra black krinkles unless I can find a M/T oval air cleaner to match.

No prob . Nope, M/Ts are long defunct. I got mine on Ebay and they don't clear my Crane pedestal rockers. I had to pull the baffles, which caused oil to come out the breathers. I had to get breather extensions and trim/braze the passenger side one because it hit the export brace. I think only one or two other active members have M/T covers, though. I have never seen the aircleaner, not even on Epay. Holman & Moody stuff comes up, though. I wanted some VCs from them, but jeez, just try to find them for anything but an FE.
