I checked at the local Ford dealer tonight and got the location of the cooling fan and ac control module for the 89 lx 2.3. Sob is $101 also.....

Got home, found it, and took it off. The last owner somehow overheated the battery power input wire to the module and the output power wire to the cooling fan. The plastic connector was distorted, the two metal wire connectors were overheated and one was kinda mangled. The circuit board connectors were covered in overheat burn debris. This ruined the connection. The backside of the board was burned brown. Love that smell.

Pushed the two connectors out, filed them, bent them back into shape, cleaned the board connectors, reinserted the wires into the plastic connector, plugged it in, and it at least runs the fan with the ac, and the compressor. After a minute, the wires seemed hot again, so I quit playing.

Put in a relay with a switch to the cig lighter for fan power, seems to work.

When I had the ac on and shut it off, the fan kept running.

Anyone know if this has a timer, or does it sound like the module is fried?

A new module is not a problem, but fixing the connector seems to be a pain.

Anyone have a fix for this?

Long, but thanks.
