Is it better to have the electric fan on/off sensor (185on/175off) in the manifold or in the thermostat (185 open) housing? Currently the temp gauge sensor is in the thermostat water neck bung and the fan sensor is in the manifold. Any thoughts on what would be better?
I would probably lean the other direction (as I sit here and ponder the idea).
Put the fan sensor near the thermostat / hot side of the cooling system.
That lets the fan respond to engine temperature, not just radiator performance.
For North Carolina street use, especially summer traffic with A/C running, I would rather have the fans come on a little early than wait for the radiator outlet to prove the radiator is no longer keeping up.
Yeah but the fan(s) will come on and cool fluid that may or may not need it and will most likely shut off when the fluid in the radiator needs it. The DCC controller on both my cars works with the sensor at the radiator outlet. Worked very well in the Houston, TX summers with the AC and a black car.
