Hmmmm, it seems like everybody hates/dislikes the cops until they need their help.

The situation is this: Fireman are a service needed when you need help, same with the EMS. Everybody's happy when the fireman comes rushing to your aid, but when you get pulled over by a cop, he or she is automatically a cynical beast out for nothing but blood. Remember, this is their job... They get paid money to do things most people would not like to do. I have a Bachelors in Criminal Justice and can speak from experience. Yes, as with every profession there are exceptions and bad officers, however, it is very rare. Do a ride along with your local law enforcement agency at some point, I guarantee you will change your mind.

Well put. Insulting public service personnel is completely ignorant.

I heard from a cop that was in a class of mine that insulting a police officer was a federal offense.

Not sure of the validity on this, but it definitely earns zero brownie points when under law enforcement scrutiny.

ha safety...its not b/c of just a few of them it b/c they pull you over and then you pay his salary, that is why people dont like them, more reasons tho, and i admit some are okay, but i would never ever chose to be a cop

1st off, I guess I pay my own salary as well cause uncle sam takes a crap load from me as well as uncle state. I bust my butt everyday and hate it when people say "I help pay your salary"! What does that mean...people dont think we pay taxes, I WISH, as I would net 90k (ot/55k reg salary)a year instead of grossing it. Ive have to damn near shoot several people over stupid things and have been in more fights than some MMA guys...and not by choice, but because people dont like being arrested.
No matter what profession you are in, be good/fair/honest in it and thats all anyone can ask. I tell u what though, when u need help, who do you call...? Man, I could go on and on about this.
A few thoughts from a proud Honolulu(oahu) Police Officer.

not just mustang people that have this prob. if i was in my untinted, no exhaust say accord(family car) i would still have the same prob with cops tailing me for no reason and flying past with out lights on etc.

I agree that police are a necessary part of society...things just would not work without them.

about the salary i was just saying why most people dont like them b/c they feel like they are paying someone to give them a ticket and they just want the rules to apply to everyone else and not them, and i wouldnt be a cop because it is dangerous work and i just couldnt handle everyone being afraid of me all the time and being so twofaced in front of me, slowing down the second they see me and waving when they pass by me, etc.

Some cops abuse privileges but most probably don't. Today at work I had one of the local cops come in like he does every Wednesday. I talk with him and he’s a good guy. Just like any job. Some people do a good job, others do a not so good job, and it’s a fact of life.

Some military personell violate the UCMJ and do a lot of bad ****, but we still love all the military dont we?

Look at the soldiers involved with the Abu-Gharib prisoner abuse. Did anyone start thinking we have a discipline problem in the Army? Or what about the sexual harrassment charges associated with the AF Acadamy? Did you assume that all AF officers are this way?

There are good and bad apples in every line of public service, but 99% of them are honest people and have dedicated their lives to serving the better good. To anyone thats ever served in any form of public service, thanks!

Everytime I read this I have to laugh.... just because you are off work and ditty bopping home does not mean that the cop is too. Because of angry citizens complaining about when cops run code... most cops now are only able to run code to Murder, Serious traffic accidents, rape, armed robbery. So when you see a cop flying without his lights on .... more than likely... he is headed to a call he feels is important even if policy says he can't run with lights and sirens.

As for them pulling up behind you then passing you at a high rate of speed.... well more than likely you are either being paced or see above description.

You don't pay my salary... you pay taxes. The city, county and state pay my salary.... If you use that statement try it on your trash man one day.... I pay your salary... you will take my extra trash... good luck see where that gets you.

We all have fast cars.... we all break the law hundreds of times a day.... when you dive home from work today... you will do at least 10 traffic violations on your trip....

You will change lanes without signal, cross solid yellow lines, roll thru stop signs and so on.... think of all the things you have got away with.... and you cry the one time you get pulled over....

Guys who hate the cops.... are mad because they got caught... most people will never get pulled over... ever. A flashy car draws attention.... you bought that car to draw attention... sometimes you get it from places you don't want... sorry about your luck.

Not a federal offense.... most cops say that so they can stop taking abuse. If I had a dime for everytime someone said :

I am going to take your badge
I am going to have your job
If you didn't have that badge on I would kick you ass
What gives you the right
I'll kill you (or add on the ever popular I will kill your whole familly)
Why don't you go arrest a real criminal

You tend to want to put the fear of something major into them.

AMEN Brother Officer!

I'll bet if the guy that is pissed because we past him going 15 mph over wouldn't mind if we were on our way to an Accident that his mother, father or other family member was involved in. Also he ought to be happy we just passed him and went on because once we are out of site he can resume driving 20 over the speed limit.

Irony is: if you didn't have that badge, you wouldn't be called there. People are so stupid they would say anything to piss off a cop to show they are tougher

The biggest annoyance to me personally is when a cop is on the highway and you are going the MAX speed limit in the fast lane on cruise control.. they tail you for 20 seconds then pass by at about 20 mph faster than whats posted. One night in particular he spot lighted me the whole time passing by me.. and it just gets to me that these things happen when good citizens are doing the RIGHT thing. But we are in an inconvienance of the "almighty" attitude SO many cops carry around with them.

your not suppose to just sit in the fast lane that is only for passing that is prob why he was on you.

In Canada it is a criminal offence to swear or "verbally assault" a police officer. It is referred to as "assault police" and is an offence under the Criminal Code of Canada (I can't think of the section off-hand). It is a charge that isn't laid too often, but it is there to protect us.
