Lets not forget that liking or disliking cops has nothing to do with anything. They are paid to protect citizens. They are public servents by definition. I am not saying that you should insult or mistreat a officer but the reality is that they are paid to do a job just like you and I.

Ok, why was my cops thread closed? It was a thread for people to voice opinions/experiences they had with cops, good or bad. Can't people voice there opinions, is that too much to ask? I think we all can handle an intelligent conversation. Nothing was wrong with the cops thread if you ask me. I'm not trying to tell you how to run SN but come on mods gives us a little freedom this is America or did Bush take over SN?

My buddy is a cop. They are just people like us. Problem is a lot of them let their personality control their job performance.

Absolutely. I have four friends that are cops. Two are Fort Lauderdale cops, one is a Davie and the other is a Hialea cop. They tell me themselves that it all depends on their mood and what the person is like. Unfortunately it shouldnt be like that but it is because they are human.

I will tell you a story that was recently in the news paper here. I know another guy that is a police officer for the city of Fort lauderdale. My wife is a teacher and she has a co-worker that got divorced and starting shacking up with a seargent for Fortlauderdale. The ex-husband and the ex-wife didnt get along so the wife, still living in the house they both bought, is now living in it with her boyfriend... the seargent. She got ahold of a letter that stated that her ex-husbands license was suspended. Because she doesnt like her husband she told her boyfriend about it. ONe night the ex-wife knew that the ex-husband was out partying and was driving with a suspended license. So the Seargent called two of his deputies and had him pulled over. When they pulled him over the ex-husband explained the story to the two deputies and the beleived the guy cause the Seargent is a pain in the ars. They let the guy go went to Internal affairs with the complaint and to make a long story shorter, the seargent was asked to retire or he would be fired.

THat is personality playing a part in the every day affairs of police work which it shouldnt be like that.

Oh yeah! I guy I work with drives an 01 cobra/forged block with a procharger putting down 600rwhp. Another has a 650rwhp stroked ss camaro with single turbo. Quite a few guys running kb's, vortech's and turbo's on their cars. Mycar is slow compared to many of the guys here.

Haha you guys are making me want to become a cop with that talk! Put those cars in the movie Supertroopers and I think we'd never have any crime, we'd all be cops! Why did I ever become a technician?? I just think some people are intimidated by the way you look with your aviator sunglasses and your perfectly trimmed mustaches. hahaha.

But seriously I have nothing but respect for you guys. Thanks for all you guys do to protect smartasses like me.

Hawaii Cops are ok in my book
My sisters neighbor in Maui is a cop and when my niece was bit by the shark the local guys would drop by and check on her...bring her flowers/gifts etc. They also kept the press away for awhile when she came home from the hospital.
I have alot of family who are police officers so I give them the respect they deserve. Just like teachers they are extremely underpaid! Don't judge them all based on the actions of a few pricks.

Ive never had any problems with the police. But then again, my Pops taught me respect. Treat others the way you want to be treated.

Ive had 2 tickets in my 18 years of driving, and never been to jail. I have a couple freinds that are police officers and they are cool guys.
I can say that Ive met a few cops that had that "Im a big bad cop" attitude.

Hell Im glad I don't have a job were you never know how the person you pulled over is gonna act, They take a chance of getting killed everyday.

All I got to say to all the Cops on SN is........ Cheers
And a job well done...

Just like all of the cops I see pull all of this same stuff and more on almost a daily basis. Common sense says.. if you want people to respect you and the traffic laws you're trying to enforce, try following them and abiding by ALL of them yourself. Do as I say, not as I do People are watching. Lead by example.

Well the bad thing there is they do not have to follow the laws. Now if something happened to your family member and they had to drive the speed limit to their house you would say "why didnt they get there quicker." Also do you know that most major criminals are caught on routine traffic stops. And that is also where the most officers are killed. A trooper in NY was just killed because of he pulled over a car where the occupants just robbed a bank and was shot and killed.
Also why do people have a problem with the police? When you need them you are happy when they are there but when you do something illegal then its not the cops fault. The people that are mad about being searched, if you dont have anything on you or in your car then you shouldnt have any problem. But just remember what they do catch with their searches.
This is America, you have the most freedom out of anywhere in the world. If you dont like it go to another country where they wont be so lenient with the laws.

I really hate to disappoint you, and you probably will NOT believe me, but I do not change lanes without signals (unless it's to cut off someone that did it to me) and I have probably rolled through a total of 5 or 6 stop signs in life. I take the extra time to make sure my car bucks back at a stop sign to ensure that I stopped all the way. As for the yellow lines, not unless it is an accident. I do not pass in no-passing zones. Most of the laws I break are not accidental, like speeding and rapid acceleration.

Umm.. I'm not talking about when they're in pursuit. I'm talking about when they're just driving around patrolling. They're not exempt from traffic laws.

We should abide by law, as we are not above it. I do allow 10mph over the speed limit on the hwy/it's only 50-60mph tops here..., to slow, but I personally do not believe 70mph is too fast on the hwy. Some guys allow more or less, it just depends on the officer. Is that breaking the law by speeding, yeah, but its not unreasonable. I treat EVERYONE with respect, as even criminals will respect u more if u do. Anyway, Ive posted enuf on this subject and everyone has FREEDOM OF SPEECH! Remember, there are way more good cops than bad and the bad ones will get caught up in something that they cant get out of, eventually. Dont be afraid to make complaints either if u were mistreated by one.

Alot of cops are pretty cool. It's just the couple of knucklehead cops that give them all a bad name. Alot of them are car enthusiasts just like us. Cops just have a bad rap cause of the few bad one's. I was an MP and never messed with people. Plus cops always have to deal w/the people who decide to be a$$es when they get pulled over.

alright , get this, i was coming out of the movie theater from our mall. it was like 9, crowded as hell, everyone is leaving since it just closed. there are 2 lanes leaving, my girlfriend is driving down the hill, nasty curves... bam super fast stop, skidding tires and everything. why? a very stupid cop decided to pull over this riced out cavalier (yes it had a huge wing, neons, and the actual fast and furious supra decals hahaha i enjoyed it) anyhow, he has this guy pulled over right in in the right lane, blocking traffic for 15 minutes. the thing is, there was room to pull off the road 100 ft farther down... i mean come on, was that really a good idea?
one more.... the cops right near my house hate me thanks to seafoam and bassani... anyhow, i dont speed really much at all. going through this area near my house, he is riding my bumper for like 1 mile, i mean like ridiculous. after a while we are coming to a T in the road signal, he takes off, slingshots around me, cutting me off, floors it down this residential neighbor hood road, doubling speed limit and more, he might have hit 50 im sure... i pull up to the stop thinking man... i go down the road, that sob pulled off about half mile ahead of me and was waiting for me to speed by him. i was going 20 hahaha he gave me a huge dirty look, as i went by he pulled out and left.... i got both their plate numbers and im going to complain at the station monday, that is ridiculous whew, sorry bout that lol just they dont need to be like that

Pretty much all the cops i know are great guys/girls, but the sad thing is the ones that make all the noise are the ones that give cops a bad name...
