Still trying to diagnose problems with a poorly running engine. I did find that I had 2 bent push rods, but I think it happened when I was swaped heads, rather than the cause of the original problem.

When I found out I had bent the rods, I pulled the tappets to check them and the cam. As I explain in my originial posting below, I don't really know much about the long block I purchased.

When I pulled the tappets and lobes, everything was fine. But, when I checked the cam lobes, they are visually not centered in the tappet holes. They appear to be off center to the back. I not sure sure the original builder used the right cam.

Is this normal? yes, I am a newbie but trying hard to learn. thx

Yea, that's normal. The lifter rides one side of the cam lobe and thus the lobe spins the lifter in it's bore. This evens the wear on the lifter and reduces friction. On the 2 bent pushrods, did you check those two lifter bottoms ? If the lobes are wiped they'll wear the lobes abnormally. Usually happens when the lifter fails to spin at initial startup. Bent pushrods are also a result of wiped cam lobes. The lobe and lifter wears far enough to where the rocker and pushrod get loose and the pushrod gets ****-eyed and then bent when it gets into a bind.

Thanks - The rods and lifters were new and not worn at all. I have checked them and they appear to be ok. I am sure it was my own sloppiness when I tightened the rocker arm assembly. I probably didnt have them positioned correctly.

Oh - and sorry for the double post. Not quite sure how that happened.
