Is it worth the $550 - $700 that they said it would cost me to dyno tune my car?? Does anyone think that it is worth it? I guess it would be running perfectly after they are done w/ it - they are the most reputable MUSTANG people around and they have a mustang dyno - but christ! THAT'S ALOT OF MONEY! I set an appt. for monday - but i may have to back out cuz of the money -

thanks

Sounds a little bit expensive. I paid $500 for a dyno tune on my '05 GT and that price included the SCT XCal tuner which is $375 by itself. So the tune itself only cost me $125. However, you tune an '05 and a '88 differently so the cost might be different.

My tune cost 600 with the cost of the chip being 300 included in the 600 dollar price. If i were you i would spend some time trying to tune it yourself since your (NA). I saw your other posts were you said you were going to put a charger on the car. If thats the case I would see how well you could tune the car yourself before the charger goes on and save the big hit for the charger tune.

last year i tuned a friends car with a similar set up to your exc. he had a pro-m 75, performer heads, and 19lb inj. we set the mech idle first, then the TPS. With 12 deg. of base timing and 44psi of base fuel pressure ( 19lb inj. ) 2 weeks later the car made 292rwhp and 331tq on a dynojet. With more tuning by Kaufmann Motorsports ( no chip ) they got 301rwhp. If your MAF is calibrated for your 24lb. injectors i would start at 10 degs of base timing with 42 psi of fuel press just to be safe and then start by adj timing and fp in small amounts. Good luck.

Well, although it varies from area to area and shop to shop, 3 dyno pulls are like $50-150, I believe at most shops. So just say $150+ a chip (like $200, I'm guessing)...so there's $350...add in the tuning labor and you're around $400-450, so $500 is somewhat reasonable.

However, at that price, you might as well get a PMS or Tweecer and tune it yourself.

If you have plans to change your combo at all and/or add a power adder, a dyno tune may not be the wisest way to spend your money. A PMS, however, would offer tunability regardless (if you can learn how to use it correctly).

Paul that's alot of cash for gain you may or may not even notice..if you're having issues with idle or poor running A/f wise I'd say maybe..but otherwise I'd say unless your running a blower or nitrous I'd say no.

I paid $685 for mine, the SCT chip was included in that price. I think it was well worth it. I picked up 30rwhp and 35rwtq, plus the car ran a lot better. Where are you taking yours?

Yo JD's performance - does it have a 215 area code? I seriously was suggested to go there by K&G speed shop today - i made an appointment for Evolution - but i think i'm gonna cancel it - and go to JD's - are we talkin about the same one??

Yea, also wanna know justforbob50 - what exactly is your friends set up - i'd kill for over 300 HP to the wheels, do you think it is attainable w/ my combo?? Evolution told me to get a PRO M meter as well

yea the car is actually burnign 2 quarts of oil a week - i dont know what could be causing this, the tail pipes don't even smoke or nothing is leaking, nothing smells like oil - just weird

Exactly! For that kind of dough you ought to get a custom tune (chip with it). Heck, Swanson performance, the most expensive place on earth (but one of the best) charges $300 an hour. For $700 he'll throw in a chip (he charges $375 for the chip). Cancel.

I know of a reputable place with a Dyno that will will charge you $90 to set up and $10 a pull after that....with you doing the tuning. For $200 bucks or so you could figure what works and what doesn't.

Yeah I like JD's, that's the only place I take my car for performance work. I'd recommend them. They may be a little more expensive than some of the other shops, but their work is top notch, and you never have to worry about anything. I know a lot of people who go there, from guys like you and me to guys who have like 900hp drag cars. I have seen Ferraris there, supercharged NSXs, you name it, but they specialize in Mustangs first and foremost. Call them on Friday or something and tell them exactly what you want done. I just told them that I drive my car every day and they did a safe tune for me and the car ran so much better than it did before. UnderPressureGT had his car done there and they made 513 at the wheels. Trust me they know their sh it. Definitely give them a call soon though, there is usually a waiting list.

Check out their website:

Hell NO it is NOT worth the money. I made the mistake of having a chip done once. For the rice they want for a 1 shot deal chip, I paid LESS for my PMS and I can retune it as many times as I want/need for free :) I stole it for $410 shipped.

White Heat - are you guys around here in PA?? I didn't know ppl were that close - Yo - i opened my car up a little tonight just in second gear. HOLY SHSIT - that thing reallllly pulls hard as a mother ****ker - I gotta get it tuned - i think i'll put those plugs in myself - and than have JD's tune it - i will def cancel - i can't afford that crap right now - do u think JD's is gonna give me an accurate number??

First I'd want to find out where 2qts of oil are going..no dyno tune is going to fix that. Do you have the baffle and screen in the lower intake to knock oil out of the system for the PCV? Oil use during break in is normal..but one quart or less in 3000miles would be max.

with my stock heads and cam (NA) with used bolt ons i got 247rwhp and 290tq at the dynojet at Xotic Mototrsports. With this set up my best 1/4 was 13.52 at 101.7 with a 1.96 60' . I dont see why you shouldnt get close to 300rwhp on a Dynojet.
