How much do you think it would be to replace a convertible top on a 91 GT? A person interested in purchasing my dad's car wants to change the top. I know they are about $150 for the top, but how much would the labor be?

it depends who you ask. some have done them themselves and reportedly had good results. but to really get it perfect is not easy. i dont know that i would tackle one.

also if you have a shop do it, check with them first. make sure they dont mind you supplying the top - some dont like that and some wont warranty it.

good luck.

$773's a decent deal, I hear a lot of estimates at $1000-$1200

fyi, this is NOT a do it yourselfer. Top install is an art. You've got to stretch, pull, tighten, fasten. getting it all straight, tight and looking good is an art. I got mine done for around $500, but I took it to a family owned business that employees a lot of south of the border people. they did good work. on a budget, find a hole in the wall place like that, or go to mexico, but just a warning, as you can spend a lot of money and get crap if they don't know what they're doing.
owning a vert is a pure love affair, and I honestly would not suggest anyone getting a vert, unless you are a HARDCORE vert lover who can pay attn to the extra maintance of a vert.

well put. your thoughts are definately the consensus. after doing a hundred of them, you probably get it down. LOL. the stang tops look like more of a pain than some others......

I'm a do-it-yourselfer to the extreme, but some things I'm not ready for yet, and a vert top is one of them!!! I'm thinking maybe for my next top, but you know?? all my years in message forums and I don't think I've ever come across someone who did it themselves!! More reason for me to try

yeah, you should have it done profesionally. about $300 for labor is a good rate although things seem to be more expensive in conn then anywhere else. the labor for my top came out to 450 but that was because they installed a custom headliner also.

oh, one more thing, the top i bought from 5.0 resto came with instructions and a tech line to help if you do try it yourself but i strongly advise against it.

Let me tell you this.
DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF
I dont care how much exp you think you have. It will not come out good!!!!

I bought my top on ebay w/ window for 200$

I got it installed for 600$
That is a good price to.
Have a trim shop do it for you, You wills eriously regret doing it yourself.
I will even go so far as to say it CANT be done on your own.

Cost me $750 for the top and install. Most places that I talked to wanted around a grand. Remembered a guy from high school whose dad owned an upholstery shop and checked them out. Well now the guy I went to school with runs. They did a pretty nice job.
