theres a guy getting rid of a 79 stang down the road from me. looks like complete s*** but it sounds and runs like a demon!

looked under the hood, has a 750 holley and an edelbrock intake. stock headers and probibly stock heads. stock 7.5 rear end with AoD ratchet shifter. gonna ask about $600.

anything i should be aware of in 79? any problems to look for or any drawbacks to later model 302s? im really excited about this, so please help if possible

I'd be more worried about the body than the motor at this point. If the body is crap then is the engine in it worth $600?

well, the bodys not garbage, but the front clip is all spray painted and teh hood cracked, but those are easy cosmetic fixes... done from a JY

im more wondering about like, rear end and suspension compatability.

will i be able to swap an 8.8 into it? will the breaks swap out with 87+ rotors and what not. just wondering what the real "bad" things about getting it would be.

EVERYTHING from an newer fox will bolt on. The rotors may need spindles, but they still bolt on. Might have to drill holes for quad shocks, but that is no big deal.

sounds like a good deal as long as the underside of the car is in decent shape and no rust in the body panels. I like the ways those GT's look when restored. I say go for it and get it.

Yup, sounds like it's a pretty good deal if it's not a rust bucket. Check out area's that are prone to rust first. (shock towers, rad saddle, hatch, floor, windshield pillars, etc) if thos are check out, then it might be a worthwhile project.

There was no '79 GT

'82 was the first year of the Fox GT. Remember the "The Boss is Back" ads??

I am sure that wasn't biased.

Relize that it will be another project and will take a good amount of time/money. If the body is in good shape, go for it, keep foxes alive.

Oh i wasn't saying there weren't any V8 models that year. I was just saying the GT model level didn't exist from 79-81.

Actually, what was the last year for the GT before the fox?? First year was 1968, then when did it end? '69???

Somebody had better tell that to all of the people that bought these. They might want their money back?

Seriously though, you are correct. There was no officially badge GT in ’79, but there was not to say a V8 Model and also a 4-cyl turbo deemed a "The Cobra" weren't available.

…but otherwise, you’re right, the “Boss was Back” in the ’82 model year line up and officially renamed "the GT".

Most likely this car was a 302 drop.

I'm pretty sure the GT line ran fron '65 until '69....unless you count the GT-350 line, which ran from '65 until '70.

I almost bought a '79 coupe last winter. It was really clean I passed on it because I told myself I didn't need another car. I see it running around town all of the time now and kick myself for not getting it.

yeah, thats the problem im running into, is i already have one project, but all that needs is assembly (have all the parts), its just that i see this car with the for sale sign in the window and i just cant pass it up.

the motor is the strongest point on the car, and im not looking for a race car, thats what my other one is for i just need somthing to drive around town in till i get mine completely done, then it will act as a good hand-me-down to my 18 year old brother

so i just need to check for rust in the floor boards and shock towers, probibly the frame rails/cross members also... my parents are giving me **** about it, so i need some positve feedback guys
