couple questions for KB owners

Ok guys, tax time next year the 9# KB is going on my '04. I made a thread a while back about what mods to do before then which I wouldn't have to take right back off. I'm going to have 3.73's put in, and I've already got exhaust, etc.

I know you get the boostapump thing, but is it worth upgrading to the svt focus fuel pump anyway? If I do this before the KB goes on, will it affect driveability until that point?

Second, if you do the big tube, big maf, etc, does that put you over the "limit" of the stock internals? I know it's around 450 anyway.

Lastly, I know KB recommends to leave their tune, their chip, etc.. and the closest tuner to me is about an hour drive away. I would assume the KB tune should be fine to get me there, but it's going to be awfully hard to stay out of boost until then. Should the KB tune be fine, and is it worthwhile to take it to a tuner anyway?

you should be fine with the bap and stock fp at 9lb's of boost

big tube, etc. ok on stock internals

KB's tune will be fine to get into boost, listen for pinging, (bad gas), custom tune is good to check the air fuel ratio

KB recommends the stock GT pump.

It's not necessarily the HP numbers but how you get to those HP numbers, if it's tuned well and no fuel issues arise and you don't live in the high RPM zone the kit will be OK.....but don't expect the motor to last forever.

The tune will be fine for the life of the product.
Some get big HP numbers out of the kit and others don't. I didn't.

Even with thier tune, I would suggest a trip to the dyno to have it checked. Every car is diffrent, and where you live can make a diffrence (humidity, altitude, temp.....). KB will work with you to get the most out of the system, but others I know have hade to send the chip back and forth up to four times.

Why spend money on stuff you don't need right now and incur potential problems with your car? I can see getting 3.73's or exhaust or suspension mods, but not any of the other stuff you mentioned. Who knows, your plans may change and you may decide not to get the KB for some reason. What if you wreck the car or lose your job, etc? Just take the money you would have spent and put it in savings. Once you get the KB, then pull out the money and get the stuff you need to support it. Also, why are you waiting until tax time. If you are getting a big tax return, you are having too much withheld out of your paycheck. You are giving the government an interest free loan. Revise you W4 and have less withheld and more in your paycheck.

That's why I just asked whether or not an upgraded fuel pump would cause problems.

The fuel pump was the only thing I asked about besides KB's upgraded stuff.

I'm in the Air Force. I doubt I'll lose my job any time soon. And if I wreck the car, I have 2 others to use, while I use money I have saved to fix the '04.

Because I have 3 children and a wife, and half the months of the year I'm deployed somewhere (tax free,) so regardless of the number of exemptions I claim, I still get a huge tax return. If I'm getting a big tax return, it's because I am able to live just fine with a smaller paycheck, then get a lump sum. Others can't, so they opt for a bigger paycheck, with little or no tax return.

Just out of curiosity, if somebody walks up to you on the street and asks for the time, do you lecture them about what arm they wear the watch on, or how to manage their time better?

Since you know all the answers, why did you come on here asking questions. And I see why you are in the military if you are so stupid to think it makes sense to get a large tax refund. If you don't know how to manage that, you should see a financial advisor. I'll know better next time to try and offer you any help.

Are you even reading any of what you're typing? I asked for questions relating to the KB. I didn't ask for tax advice, so quit preaching.

Secondly, you offered no useful input on what I asked at the start of the thread, so why did you even bother to post in it?

Look how you took personal shots at me after me simply explaining why I choose to get a large refund. That's my choice, your choice is to be a dick to people and force your OPINION on other people.. I can't stand people like you in real life. Please unsubscribe from the thread so I can read posts from people who actually have useful input.

Actually, my advice was good. If you weren't so defensive you could see that I was telling you not to spend money before you actually need to for something you may end up not needing in the long run. And if you listened to the tax advice, you would not have to wait for a tax refund because the money would be in your next paycheck. The reason I took a shot at you is because of your initial piss poor response to me. Now, I don't care what you do so go back to sweeping the decks or whatever it is you do and have a nice day.

no need for any mods other than possible gears or suspention.

the kb kit is complete. save you $$$ for some dyno time and something to get the traction to the ground.

I would suggest suspention. stock car benifits greatly from that as well. climp under you car and look at your stock control arms. then relize you will have almost twice the hp you have. also your rear tire size. you are going to want like 285-295min. 315 preferably.
