I am getting ready to install a KB 2.1, and trying to figure out a couple small problems I have before I get down to it. Here goes:

1) At startup, there is a hissing noise from the intake area. I have checked all vacuum lines ect, but it almost sounds like it is coming from inside the intake manifold. It is only present until it warms up, then gone. Anyone have this issue before, if so, what was the fix.

2) Radiator fan. The fan just doesnt work. I have checked and there appears to be power, and the fan turns freely. The Ford tech believes that it may be the relay/sensor, but you can only buy the entire fan/housing/relay assembly as one. I stay out of stop and go traffic because if I sit too long I can watch the temp start to go up, as soon as I start moving, it is right back down. I saw a writeup at one time about a way to wire it to stay on all the time, but I cant find it anymore.

3) A/C. Part of it is because of the radiator fan, when I stop for any amount of time, the A/C goes warm, as soon as I start moving, it starts blowing cold again. I attribute this to the fan not blowing air across the condenser, is this correct? The A/C compressor also makes a terrible noise. It almost sounds like a S/C at times when driving. At idle, it makes a loud moaning/whirring sound and drops the idle down to about 400-500 when it kick on then the engine compensates. Would you think this is the A/C clutch or the compressor itself since the compressor is still working fine other than the sound?

Thanks in advance for the replies. If I figure out anything, I will be sure to put it in.

I got out to mess with the fan today, I checked everything, it appeared to be fine. I put in a new fuse after the car was warm and started it back up, the fan came on. I got in the car to go for a ride and test it with the AC blowing, and as soon as I got in, I smelled the dreaded electrical burning smell. It was worse under the hood and the fuse had of course blown again. Where should I start the search now, all the wiring appears to be fine.

There is a short somewhere in the system. I can't help you with that though, sorry.

A lot of times low freon causes the AC system to blow warm air. You should take it to someone who knows what they are doing to fix the AC. I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself because AC systems are complicated.

The hisses noise you are hearing from the intake might be normal, but it might be a vacuum leak. Does your car idle high? If so, there is a leak somewhere. You can use a butane torch to find the leak. When the butane goes into the leak, you will hear the idle change pitches. Hope this helps!

...I can take it. I think.

The fan is probably shot but test the circuit 1st. Do you have a voltmeter?
