My only gripe about the car is how fat it looks. I wish Ford had of made the car leaner like the old fast backs. The sides of the car are just too high which gives the car its fatty look. I love the retro look of the car but I would like to have seen more roof and less sides. The car would have looked lean and mean then.

This is something that I haven't heard people talk about, am I the only one who notices how freakin big this car looks?

What do you guys think? I'm not talking about the length of the car or the curb weight, I'm talking about the bulky APPEARANCE. This car looks a lot bigger than it actually is.

Oh yea, the factory spoiler has no business on a muscle car. It kills the look.

All of the liitle aggravations with my new stang are really the things that endear me to the car. Kind of like the wife, if she was perfect, life would be really boring. My wife is so short that she stands up in the floorboard and holds on to the dash to look out the front window. She can drive the car fairly easily with the additional of a couple of phone books!
Some of these "rednecks" around me here in Houston are way off the deep end. One of them would probably try to raise the new mustang and add a four wheel drive kit. One of them still thinks that an 8 track tape player is an advanced sound system... They do not worry about the center console. The cup holders are perfect size to stack several snuff cans. They usually just strap a small cooler in the front passenger seat for their refreshments.
On a more serious note, most of the minor aggravations on this car can be rectified very easily. UD pulleys, MAF, 410 gears, and a tune will fix the throttle lag issue. A dash kit and some billet goodies will fix the cheap plastic in the interior.

I was always curious as to how the new body style compared to the original. Not until this picture did I see just how much alike they look while being totaly different as well. I don't know if they could build a more similar car given the safety and convenience that goes into these cars today.

has anyone noticed that there isn't a Ford oval present anywhere on this thing, inside or out? That's awesome. Ford clearly set this car apart as a brand, and say what you will about them, I think Ford does interiors better than almost anyone out there.

My 2007 came from the factory with 11 Ford ovals.

I wasn't considering the ovals on the rims. What I mean was:

1) No ovals inside in plain sight, only Mustang tri-bar emblems

2) No big oval on the back hatch like some of the older cars had.

So far, one complaint. No trunk button in the car, at least not that I can find. That's just plain weird, IMO.

Well, two. It can be hard to find a good seating position.

I'm considering a new GT and scanning some sites for owner comments.

Someone above mentioned "throttle lag".

What's that all about?

"throttle lag" is the result of what Ford calls Torque Management.

Ford engineers felt that these cars were too responsive to even light acceleration and have programed (what I call) a DEAD ZONE into their Drive by Wire system.

Basically, when accelerating from zero throttle pressure - you'll briefly feel a lag in response for a split second (maybe 1/2 second) and then regain full response under normal pressure.

Its annoying at the very least and can even be dangerous when turning Left in front of on-coming traffic ...

Why they did this is still an open debate but the best guess is that they considered it advantageous to make the car more appealing to the Secretaries and the Senior Citizens of the world - to the detriment of US Sports Car enthusiast.

opinion : If they had done this to a European Sports car they would have been laughed out of the Auto Show circuit - but because its a mass produced American car they can somehow get away with it.

Thanks for the info. I've driven an automatic about a year ago and, now that you mention it, did notice a hesitation.

Is it really noticable with the 5-speed as well as the auto?

with a 5 spped, you can make it better, but it is still present. i learned how to get around it in most cases. however, it is just better to go ahead and get a tune right away, then you get rid of the lag and add ponies!! also, with an auto, it will improve the shift firmness and the shift points.

To be honest, I haven't really noticed the "lag." I'll pay close attention later.

i only have 2 minor things that annoy me.

1. squeaking sound from passenger side mirror or in that area. it doesn't happen all the time. temp solution: turn music up louder.

2. found some scratches on driver and passneger side windows. probably inside scrapping from going up & down. temp solution: leaving windows down so i don't see scratches.

Other than what I've already listed ? I don't know if this can really be considered as something that I don't like or not ? but appearance wise I'd really like to know why Ford didn't extend the roofline or greenhouse into a full fastback profile similar to the 67-70 Stangs and hips would have been nice as well..

I love my '05 GT! I was a Chevy guy 'till these babys' came out. More to like than not, but a few of the not:
Cabin fresh air flow, if it's moderately warm outside, it will be warm inside. Sometimes you don't really need the A/C, just fresh air.
Lack of an inside trunk release.
The low fuel light should be on the gas guage, not to the side where it can go unnoticed.
How about a dead pedal?

Nothing major, just room for improvement!

If you've driven manual transmissions all your life, then it is really noticeable. My beater vehicle is a '98 F-150 w/ the V-6/MT combo and the throttle response in that is instantanious compared to my '06 GT with the MT. A truck shouldn't have better throttle response than a Mustang GT I don't complain too much though, since I understand why it is this way. A CAI and tune is on it's way and it'll be all good then The 1 thing that I am surprised at is that I am the only one that complained about the lack of a telescoping steering column in this thread.
