Cracked bellhousing 65 stang, 3 speed 200ci

I am in need of new bell housing. The last person that worked on it installed the wrong screw into the bracket for the release bearing lever and made a nice crack. I have looked around and made some calls and I have found one for $175, but I was hoping to get one a little cheaper. Anyone have any ideas.

Junkyard. If you can find one in an old junkyard it probably will be cheaper but you'll have to take it out. There should be plenty of these things out there with everybody putting V8's in 6 cyl. cars. Maybe somebody here will sell you one.

If someone wants to sell me one, let me know. I don't have access to any local junkyards. Or I would do it. I will tell you there is nothing quick about working on a 40 year old car. Patience, patience.......

If it's aluminum just get it welded. Iron can be welded using nickel rods.

Before buying a bell housing you will need to figure out if you have an early or a late 65' bellhousing. They are NOT interchangeable.

The early housing attaches to the motor using 5 attaching bolts of the same length (not counting starter and inspection plate.) The later 65' and all of 66' housing attaches with 6 bolts, also of the same length.

I've always preferred the late blocks because I could take a bellhousing and clutch assembly from a 67' and newer Mustang/Falcon (etc.) or even a 70's Maverick/Comet (etc) and adapt either the heavier duty Ford 3 speed or, my favorite, a 4 speed Toploader.

Thanx for the offer on the bellhousing, it's the wrong one. I have a 4 bolt trannie.

Regarding the welding, I did consider it, but the crack goes all the way through and it is cracked it three spots. Although I may have no choice...

Whaddya mean you have no access to junkyards, there aren't any in VA?

Try putting an ad in the classified section here, many guys have swapped their I6s over the years.

That bell is for an automatic. Tinfixer is in need of one for a stick shift.

yes there are junkyards in VA... I am getting it welded today, clutch will be here tommorow, flywheel getting machined and hopefully if my wife is not pissed off at me about spending all my time in the garage I should have it done by this weekend...I hope
