When I bought my 84 I paid $2k in 2015. Car ran and drove great, had some engine work done and had maximum motor sports suspension parts.

I’d pay a grand for that thing If the motor isn’t trash.

They are going up in value(according to Hagerty, Craigslist etc.), seems like yesterday they were everywhere and now I do a double take when I see one. Condition is still a determining factor though.

Totally different type of situation but since everyone mentioned the whole "sitting on dirt or grass for years avoid it" way of thinking I'll share my experience. Sorry if it's allot of reading but I've shortened it down a ton

I'd normally avoid a car that has been in weeds or on grass for many years but after catching a glimpse of what looked like an lx tail light peeking through six foot weeds blowing in the wind on a 34 acre farm in the mountains of PA. I decided to talked to the property owner turns out he was original owner and parked it back in 2004 due to transmission issues. Offered $300 without looking at it and he pulled it out a two weeks later for me after cutting a path to it. I didn't expect much and didn't even know it was a coupe but it ended up being completely rust free. Pulled front clip, engine, trans, rear and carpet etc. Only problem areas were the fuel tank looking a little crusty along the top, fuel pump and fuel pump assembly were crusty. So I replaced the tank, hanger and pump while completely converting the car over to v8. Some of the trim, rear package tray and paint was faded badly from years of sun but no big deal.

So my take on it is if it isn't too far from you it maybe worth a few minutes of your time to just check out. In my situation I was 4.5 hours from home visiting family and I seen this. If you asked me to travel 260 miles one way to look at a car that has been parked for 14 years on a farm in six foot weeks I would laugh at you.
